Morley A/B/Y Pedal Quality?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I've done alot of searching around this site and others (yeah, I know, its rare) and have found mixed opinions on the Morley A/B/Y pedal. Most TB'ers say its good, however a good bit of Harmony Central reviews say it bleeds signal and hums, or it breaks (gets stuck on the B button, so you can only play amp B or A+B, not switch A or B).

So, what is the general opinion here? I'm thinkin of going with this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/Morley-A-B-ABY-A...QQcmdZViewItem

I dont know if its the newer or older version, but I've seen different boxes around eBay...if this is the new one, maybe it works better? I dunno, shout out what you think. If a local store had them I'd just buy it and try it, but returning through eBay is always a real pain, so I'd like to hear some opinions first.

Also, I'm looking to pay under $50 (under $40 really, but I'd go higher for better quality)

I have it. It's just a passive switcher - the battery is for leds only and it can be used without battery. There is no way it can generate hum itself or bleed signal (unless the contacts are rusty or whatever). It really is a simple device. Any hum is the result of ground loop - which Morley cannot generate even if it wanted to do. It does what it's supposed to do.

I have an ART A/B/Y pedal (which is virtually identical in function to the Morley), and I am ashamed to admit that I originally thought that it was suffering from some cross-channel bleed. After tearing my whole rig apart, I realized that it wasn't bleeding, it was just that some combinations of my pedals in the inactive channel were so noisy, that they were generating their own noise and outputting that noise to my amp! I felt really stupid for originally trashing that pedal, and I suspect that is what a lot of other people are complaining about.

For switching between two amps it does the job, but I thought it really stunk at connecting to two amps simultaneously.

I've owned one, and shared experiences with many other owners. We all had pretty much the same assessment.

The A/B function seems to work fine.

The Y function comes complete with a large drop in volume. It is unusable, in my opinion.

That pedal is long gone. If you need the Y function, buy a Whirlwind or a similiar higher-end device that you will be happy with. If you are just interested in the A/B function, buy a Carvin and put the savings in your war chest for future purchases!

That's quite normal because as I indicated it is completely passive. The Y function works just like a Y cable, nothing more. When you split a signal like that, you'll lose volume.
