Morley Double Bass Wah question

Sign in to disble this ad
If you own one of these, I'm considering buying one and have a quick question. I do realize it's a switchless design. This is sorta why I'm considering not buying it. I used to have a Dunlop wah, I didn't like it so much but the one cool thing was I could leave it half cocked so to speak. Use it like a filter.
I realize many people don't do this, maybe some do, I don't know. I always did. So the question is with the Morley, can you push it down to an increment and let go with your foot, and it will just stay there? Is it spring loaded or something I can break off so it'll work how I want it to?
I really dig the idea of the dual wahs and I want one but not if I can't set it and forget it when the time calls.

Also it should probably be known, the first time I saw the name of this pedal, or maybe I got it wrong, I thought it was a wah pedal for an upright orchestral bass!

i got the Ibanez Weeping demon because you can switch it between a switchless style and a more traditional switch operation.

not sure if it'll do what you want sound wise, but it's got tweakable perametres.
not sure if this helps but it's kinda neat thing to check out for fuller options.

I muchly appreciate the reply. If the Morley won't do it maybe I'll try one of those out. There isn't one store around here that has a Morley pedal of any sort, so there isn't one even worth a damn in my book. I hate where I live =( Thanks for the tip though!

Actually now that I'm thinking about it more, the reason I didn't like the Dunlop wah was sort of because of the switched function. It was like you're always starting trebely? I don't know if that's a word but you know what I mean. Hitting the switch and cocking it back for the first note was always unreliable. The only redeeming value was I could set it and forget it. I want that but with a switchless interface. Wow. I'm like a woman.......

It is Switchless and Springloaded. That was why I stopped using it. now I use a Crybaby designed for guitar.

form what I can tell, there is no bass wah that can be set and left. The spring could be broken Im sure, but the warranty would probably be voided with said action. I like how the Crybaby (guitar version) sounds with my rig, but I also use a guitar amp for my bass's Bridge Pickup.

The Morley Dual Bass Wah (NOT Double Bass Wah... such a thing doesn't exist ) is spring-loaded.

The heavy-duty spring can be removed. All you need is a screwdriver and some patience. It's fairly simple in design. Be warned, however... if you want to put it back, it's going to be a pain.

I once disassembled an older Morley bass wah (the old blue one), and it wasn't fun getting the spring back in place.

On a related note... do you know what kind of wah sound you're looking for? Morley is very non-traditional (i.e., not like a Crybaby at all). But if it's the Morley sound you seek, and you don't mind a broad frequency sweep that cuts low end on some settings, why not consider their Power Wah reissue, which IS switched and not spring-loaded?

Like Mystic said, it is spring loaded and cant be set half-cocked. Im not so sure it would stay where you leave it if you remove the spring either, as I believe it may be too loose at the hinge joint to do so. Though, it is a great sounding wah!
