Hello TBLand!
I play in a "Bass only" band and am looking for some suggestions on how I could "guitar" up the sound I am getting. Just to give you an idea of what I am working with already:
Geddy Lee Jazz bass >
Ibanez TS9-808 modded >
Boss ODB-3 >
Boss TU-2 > Split A/B
A Chain
TS9-DX >
EHX Micro POG >
Traynor Mono Block >
Marshall 412 and Ampeg 410
B Chain
2 Ampeg SVT's
1 Powering an 810 the other powering a 215
The signal that I am looking to mess with a little is the A Chain. I love the bass sound that I am getting and I am just looking for some more "aural texture" so to speak. I have considered getting a Roland Midi unit and maybe some Graphic EQ.
Any advice would be awesome.
Thanks!!!

But im serious about octave up Unibass style of effect. They are to fill the space of a guitarist when they go off on some 'check me out' solo.
EDIT: They are discontinued, but someone else round here would know a similar product. I have a Unibass, so have not really looked much further. Im thinking thats along the lines of what you need though.

Thanks again for the info,

That's roughly what i'm aiming to do. It SHOULD sound like 2 electric guitarists playing power chords over your root note.

Sell a SVT and get an amp with an incredible amount of clean headroom and generously boost the crap out of the high mids and highs.
Play with a pick in between the neck and neck pickup of the geddy with both pickups on 100%.
Or get some freakin Q-tuners. those pickups will probably make your high end incredibly brilliant. |

Thanks for the input

there was a denver band called ainmatter that had two bassists, drums, and singer. both bassists had aguilar heads, accugroove cabs, mesa rectifiers (dual and a triple), and mesa guitar cabs. they would switch between the amps accordingly for a a pretty wide range of sounds. i think tube head distortion smokes most pedals anyway. |

You could always play through a guitar amp as well! (yes, it's possible, i've done it on a friend's AC30 before and it sounded extremely guitar-like ) |

| | | Maybe you could try playing guitar, actually itīs easier than playing bass to me. |

do you mean "bass only" as in no other instruments, multiple basses, organ trio?
just throwing it out there, why not find a guitarist? though there are probably very good reasons, many of which i can relate to... it seems like you hear guitar
another idea- 8 or 12 sting bass ala modern john paul jones, doug pinnick (king's x), tom peterson (cheap trick) |

Thanks for the input | No, i haven't done it, but my current setup (as above without the HOG or chorus) is already sounding quite convincing. I'm sure the chorus would make it even more so, after hijacking my guitarist's chorus.

How about adding a piccolo bass to your arsenal? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
