Most insane effect ever?

Sign in to disble this ad
On Palladium tonight I saw the 30th Anniversary Rush concert (2005). Sitting next to Geddy's amps were a clothes washer & a dryer that were in operation and were miced!

Were these effects for bass or for the whole sound system?

Is a pedal version avaiable?

HAHAHAHAHA!
That's got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I wonder what they had running in the washer and dryer. Rocks? Jeans? Broken effects pedals? Groupies?

No, they are used to get his cleanest sound.

Obviously.

Actually those were early prototypes of the old Tel-Ray oilcan delay effects.

Personally I prefer the chicken rotisseries, far tastier effect!

This is geting silly.

A bass player (?) smashing the top of a stove with a whatever; a cement mixer - this stuff is just noise, not music.

On the other hand, the Rush washer/dryer effect was tuned to Db with the dryer one octave higher than the washer. And, yes, there were real clothes in both machines.

It was all a big joke on Geddy's part. He doesn't use amps/speakers on the stage any more, but Alex still does. The stage set looked lopsided with Alex's rig on one side and nothing on Geddy's, so they put the dryers up there (and Chicken rotisseries for Snakes & Arrows). The mics were part of the joke--they weren't plugged in to anything. And yeah, they had real clothes in them--concert shirts they tossed out to the crowd at the end of the shows.

It's musique concrète. Or in the case of the cementmixer: concrete music.
