Most versatile non-multi pedal?

What is the most versatile non-multi effects pedal which you own? For example, the EHX Enigma:QBalls offers a tremendous amount of control and you can really make a lot of different sounds with it.

My tuner. Tunes any bass, or guitar, any tuning, PLUS, acts as a master mute switch. Amazing.

Of course that's funny, but really there are two kinds of versatility: something that can perform a lot of different functions, or something that performs just one function that works brilliantly in a lot of different contexts. So your tuner, or a good light overdrive, or a blender pedal, are indeed quite versatile.

The "most versatile" in terms of number of wildly different sounds from one non-multifx pedal would probably have to be one of EHX's more complex units, although Pigtronix and Studio Electronics have toes in that pool as well. Also the Celmo Sardine Can is pretty darn versatile in its own way.

I think any good delay pedal with modulation can be insanely versatile. The EHX Stereo Memory Man w/ Hazarai is a great example.

1. It's a delay (duh)
2. Feedback and D. Time all the way down with modulation and it's a chorus. (the SMMH can also get a flanger'ish sound with the mod. way up)
3. Now turn the mix all the way wet and it's a vibrato.
4. With a very short delay and a couple repeats, it's a reverb (the SMMH actually get's an awesome reverb sound in the 3rd multi-tap mode)

The SMMH can actually do two more things that not just any delay w/mod can.
5. With delay and feedback all the way down, the filter and blend knobs can actually be used as a faux tone control. Mess with the delay time a little and you can get a really thick sound.

6. The other feature is of course that the SMMH has a looper built in.

The SMMH may not be the most ideal chorus/vibe/tone/reverb (I actually think it does a great verb sound) but it can get into all these areas, and it has presets, so you can realistically use it for all these things live without endless tweaking. I have actually used it as both a chorus and reverb live and was quite happy with my results.

Nocto Loco by 4MS has tons of great sounds. 1/2/3 octaves down and a tremolo effect that depends on pitch to determine the speed. Also, if you hit the Loco button, things get really...loco.

-Digitech Bass Synth Wah (octaver, envelopes, filters and synths)
-Hardwire DL-8 (digital, reverse, modulated, slap back, lo fi, and tape style delays plus a looper)
-Ibanez PD7 (clean boost, OD and distortion settings plus the "Attack" switch that I never use)
-MXR M-80 (clean preamp, distortion and DI all in one)
-Boss LS-2 (you can do so much with this pedal it's insane)

HOG.

Other than a Pitchfactor I'd be hard pressed not to argue in its favor. Although one could call a Pitchfactor a multi.

I have both the HOG and the Stereo Memory Man with Hazari, and they're both pretty versatile.

I would say my Digitech XP-1000, but I bet most people would consider that a Multi. After that, the Bass Micro Synth, and (believe it or not) the Flanger Hoax. Seriously, the Flanger Hoax is capable of a whole lot of different modulation tones (some of them even normal sounding)

The Boss DD7 has a lot of options for a pedal its size. Three flavors of delay, plus reverse delay, plus it's a looper.

Regarding the pedal that does one thing well in a lot of situations, I'd point out the Ibanez Weeping Demon wah. Very configurable, useful with all sorts of instruments.

Oh, I always have my LS-2 active, too. Great way to blend effects and dry bass, easily control output volume, an easy effects kill-switch and a good failsafe device in case a pedal or connection fails.

TECH 21 Character Series VT. I set it atop my rig and adjust volume, clean/dirty, all from the VT.

The SMMH is definitely versitile, but I think I will give my vote to the Pigtronix Disnortion. It has parallel fuzz and overdrive, both of which sound amazing on their own and even better blended together, plus a separate octavia that makes stuff really interesting. I got the Disnortion on a bit of a whim, but I really can not ever see myself selling it.

its a hard tie between the EHX QBALLS with exp pedal ( i use the Moog EP-2) or the EHX bass micro synth (Moog in a box pretty much to me).
