MR. OIZO bass sound mofo 's !

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay,
I've been reading alot of stuff here on talkbass about dubstep, dubstep wobble ... whatever. okay.
Something easyer and cooler to get is right in the title, oizo.
Does someone know how to get that fat tone.

I want/own:
bass channel;
boss oc-2 (owned)
bass blogger (owned)
moog mf-101 (with exp.)
sansamp allways turned on 1 channel to mixing table

treble channel:
big muff (owned)
sc-10 chorus (owned)
reverb

channels are the two ric-o-sound split-ups.

Someone has any sugestions for leaving out stuff/buying other stuff/ how to get that sound, many thanks.

PS. for the wobble
(tremelo with exp. @ speed control, after that envelope, before all gated fuzz ad comp.) cus its hard to find lately at the big threads.

I only know Oizo's first album and that as ALL samples and a Korg MS-20... not an easy task to replace... Love those tunes.

People I play with know me for getting synthy sounds... fuzz into wah makes nice sweeps, syb-5 does some sounds, line6 m9 has some useful stuff... but not *really* those ms-20 tones... laptop with the korg emu being fed by your bass??

I once played this tune with my band.
BOSS OC2-->Catalinbread Heliotrope / BOSS SYB5 -->Moog LPF came close to it.

I've only listened to a bit of oizo when I've stumbled onto him from listening to other ed banger people... I've heard a few bass sounds from him though. Does he have a specific one that people recognize as his, or are we talking about a specific song?

flat beat of oizo is a pretty good example yes.
My speakers are '80 kustom 2x15 so that wont be a problem I gues.
Plenty of lows / low mid.
I just think for the bass players it is a little bit the future to go a little bit the way of electronic music.
Everybody loves that kind of bass.
slapping is somethimes cool, 3 months later everybody hates it ...
you know.
My gues is for oizo =
oc-2, fuzz + gated fuzz in 1 chain , moog lpf with an expression at the envelope and a bunch of fat compression, maibe a volume pedal too.
idk. maybe there are some pro 's in here that can correct me ?

yeah, that's pretty much what I use to nail that sound. instead of a gated fuzz I use a quasi samplerate reducer (Catalinbread Heliotrope).

The MS-20 is sick. Had one, sold it ages ago---so dumb . . . .

Korg's Legacy collection of virtual synths has it--sounds great. You could go the bass-to-midi converter route I guess, or dare I say....just play a keyboard

Flat beat stuff is *very* hard to imitate if you're short of an ms-20, roland 101, moog rogue or something alike..

Love the first album, don't really like anything he did afterwards.

Been really enjoying perusing this board for a little while on a studio break this evening, and jumped on this thread.

God, I LOVE that first Oizo record. We used to bump that **** so loud before going on stage w/ Beck around that time.

I can kinda cop that tone w/ my MS-20 (or maybe a bass w/ OC-2 and direct turned down) and an OTO Biscuit or a Catalinbread Teaser Stallion going into something for an envelope opening sound like Bass Microsynth or another slow filter.

Do you think this kind of sounds like the Flat Beat sound? Excuse the playing (leaning over playing with pedals), I was more just messing around trying out the sound. I've never attempted to play the track before and was having a hard time getting the expression right

Also, this was done with a mic in my kitchen with cooking happening in the background, so it's a bit hollow sounding with some background noise... Probably need headphones too.
