To much of the same? 2 Vt-bass and BDDI-P

Ok, heres the deal. I have two VT-bass pedals on my peddleboard. Really liking the versatility of the two.

Last week I traded a bass for Cash and a Sansamp BDDI-P which is on it's way to me. I've never used a Sansamp pedal other than the VT's or a rack Sansamp PSA so I'm not sure how the Sansmap BDDI-P is going to compare/enhance or not meet the standards of the VT's.

I'm a user of clean tones ranging from dub to mellow to more aggressive traditional stingray type tones. Very little grit or tube gain distortion to my sounds at all.

Is potentially having 2 vt-basses and a 3-preset Sansamp BDDI-P on the same board 'to much of the same?" I'm looking for variety of sounds. I have a very good modern punchy sound coming straight from my bass and NeoPak. I'm currently using one VT-bass for a Dub/Mellow/Country type sound. The other VT-bass has a edgier sound by way of more character knob and a bit of grit to it that can be made grittier by digging in on the bass.

So is there anything that the BDDI will be able to do sound-wise that the VT's cannot or vice versa? (Other than D.I. ability of course).

I feel like for versatility's sake I should look toward keeping either:
1 VT-bass and the BDDI-P - and selling one VT-bass
2 VT-bass as I am now - and selling the BDDI-P

Then looking toward acquiring one of the following for tone versatility options:
MXR M-80 (No sweep Mids)
Xotic Tri-Logic (No sweep Mids or D.I.)
Tone Hammer (Has Sweepable Mids and D.I.)
Electronics Submarine, Messdrive+ or both
EBS Microbass II (Sweep Mids, D.I. and effect loop, but pricey)

My thinking is that where I'm using one VT-bass basically to kill highs and mids for a dubby/country type sound I could do the same with a Submarine or Messdrive+. So one of the VT-basses or the BDDI is expendable with one of the additions above.

Thoughts/Options/Alternatives?

I realize that the best true solution to this is to wait until I get the BDDi-P and compare tone-wise myself, which I WILL do.

I'm just trying to think through some options before things arrive.

Also considering a Radial Bassbone, but there again there's no Mid-Sweep on that unit. I could drop an Aguilar OBP-3 with Mid Sweep in my current main bass that only has a stock Seymour Duncan 3-band in it, which would help the mid selection options...

Put down the Talkbass NOW!!! You have allowed TB to drive you crazy. When this happens, the only thing you can do is put a 90-day freeze on buying anything else. Just force yourself. And always remember that tone comes from you.

I'm in control. :-)

I do not buy anything on credit or spend money that I've not set aside as 'play money' and have yet to sell something that I ever bought back another one of.

I'm just a compare, think ahead and plan type of guy when at all possible.

If know one knows how to effectively compare the VT's to the BDDI then I'll just wait until the pedal arrives in a few days. No biggie.

Of course, I'll share my thoughts on the comparison also and reasoning.

Subscribed.

I'm interested to know what kinds of sounds the BDDI and VT Bass will give when used together.

Well, the 2 VT-basses together had more than a doubling effect sonically, and about 20% or so increase in volume. I have one setup as a Reggea/Country mellow sound, and another as a more modern Pop/Rock full sound with a bit of edge to it. When you have both of them on together you hear no difference in highs but the lows blooooom way out and any overdrive/fuzz from the gain about doubles.

I could probably do a clip of one, then the other, then together pretty easy, but can't get it done tonight. Would have to be Tues. night at least.

Agreed. Sometimes you can drive yourself crazy with "what if" and "maybe I should try" and reading things on TB sometimes adds to the confusion instead of clearing things up.

Live with what you have for a 90 days and go from there.
