Muff'n Questions

Sign in to disble this ad
ive learnt alot off of the other English Muff'n threads, so im goin to ask a few specific questions, as the threads i psted on previously seem to be dead (ie: no action in months-hehe like me)

1) how do i replace the stock tubes for 12AX7s, do they need to be unscrewed or pulled out, or do i need to take the casing apart?
2) will any 12AX7 fit/work? (i know nothing about tubes)
3) Could i use a bass EQ pedal to boost bass frequencies on the pedal, and would it need to be before or after the muff'n?(a bit of a silly question, but i've never used an EQpedal and im a bit worried that the Muff'n will disappear in a band with two distorted [Metal Muff] guitars)
4) can tubes be worn out/blown with too much input? (i know that thats how u get the drive on it, but our guitarist managed to blow a tube in a 70s Bassman amp just before a gig, i dont want that to happen to me)

i've heard of a few people on here trying to mod it for a better EQ response, but i wouldnt have a clue about that and i dont want someone else to try and rip me off to do it, so im just looking for a simple cheap solution to problems that may arise in a band situation (ive no problems as of yet, im just being cautious)
your advice?
cheers
Dosi

1. Just have to remove the tube guard

2. Yes, and some tubes besides 12AX7's should work fine.

3. I think the built in EQ is fine, I have never needed an extra EQ with that pedal.

4. I cannot see anything a normalperson putting into an EM would blow a tube. You would have to loke hook up an amplifier to it, and it would probably smoke some other component first. Your guitarists tube likely had nothing to do with him playing too hard/loud, etc....

thanks hookus,
so i guess i just undo the screw between the two tubes and they should come out easily?
also i dont know if you've done it, but does it give a different character to the distortion or is there just..well....more of it? as in just further saturated?
thanks
Dosi
