Multi-Effect Fans Digitech RP-20 Valve...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys,
Have any of you tried the Digitech RP-20 Valve? I just picked one up the other day for a super price and it sounds fantastic even for an older unit. I know it's for guitar but one of my favorite bassist Dave Meros from Spock's Beard uses it with his Rickenbacker and gets fantabulous tones. Actually Dave is now using the RP-21D but used to use the RP-20 but gave it to Alan Morse their guitar player. The RP-21 is essentially the same unit with a digital out.The RP has an input gain knob so even my active basses can be used without clipping!
The RP-20 has a few bass presets that of course need some tweaking but you get a great tube preamp, tube and solid state distortions, the usual mod effects with a blend control, compressor, tuner, all the Digitech Whammy stuff, wahs auto wahs, noise supressor, you name it. plus the ability to "morph " between the preamps. If you get a chance try picking one up.
Take Care,
Brent

Those older Digitech units are pretty cool, I still use my BP8 all the time.

I've wanted to pick up a BP-8 for the longest time. I've never had a chance to plug into one. Prices are pretty good on them, I'll have to take a look and find a minty one.

bassbrad do you think you could do some sound clips of the Bp-8? That thing has been around for years and I don't thin I've ever seen a demo or heard clips of it.

Sorry I am too much of a tecnophobe to even try to post a clip.

If I was still using a multi, I'd definitely demo the RP20.

For pure tone, my BP8 is the best multi I've ever used.

And I've used a few ...

Awesome sound samples you got there. the amp models sounded pretty cool. have you ever did sound samples of effects on the behringer bass v-amp like an overdrive, distortion, chorus, flanger, etc.?

Thanks! Sorry, no samples with compression, effects or stomp boxes because my only goal on that page is to show how great the amp models alone sound. And if you like those then wait until you hear them with the other stuff! Check out my V-AMP thread in the Amps forum here on TalkBass for more info. (The link is on the top my demo page.)

Nice!
Yeah the Rp-20 is pretty cool. Probably overkill for me.
Very little low end loss surprisingly and there are plenty of eq choices just in case plus a signal mix wet/dry.

Those are awesome clips Charlie. I've been following your thread on the Bass V-Amp in the amps section, all good stuff.

Hey, thanks, Brent! I didn't realize I had a following :-)

I love amp modeling and can't wait to see what's next in store for us

Yeah I was pretty disappointed that the new HD Pod's from Line 6 don't have any bass amp models. I have a Bass Pod XT that I really like but your clips are certainly on par with the Xt. I always thought the Bass V-amp was more like the 1st generation Bass Pod's but it sounds better in my opinion.

You might be interested in hearing POD tones against the Bass V-AMP and TalkBass favorite, the Tech 21 VT Bass.

Have a listen @ http://www.zinfanus.com/svt

Wow! Nice comparison there.
I can honestly say the Tech 21 does nothing for me on those clips and you're right the Line 6 clips sound kinda way back and weak or dark I guess. The Behringer sounds really good although I was surprised at the amount of crunch the SVT 2 had. i always thought it would be more of a hi-fi tone like the SVT 4Pro, but I 've never had the chance to try one out. Actually I forgot the SVT2 is all tube as well so I guess that makes sense.
Great Stuff Charlie!
