Multi-Effect Practice Device Suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a small / gig bag sized multi-effect unit that I can use with headphones for late night practice. Also want to spend less than $200.00. A third desire is the device be bass specific.

What I have found is the Korg PX4B......discontinued. Replaced with Korg PX4D or PX5D (much more expensive). The 4D and 5D are combination guitar/bass devices.

Line6 Bass PodXT. Also discontinued? Replaced with Pod X3? Again, a guitar/bass combo device. The X3 is expensive and out of price limit.

The Zoom B2 seems like a possible option but it seems the user interface is less friendly and useful.

I know there are some units out there with integrated pedals but I don't want one of those. I want a pocket/bean sized device.

So, from your experience/perspective, what are my options? Does anyone have any info about new units that may be released at NAMM?

It seems that the pocket-sized bass multi-effects niche has disappeared!?

Thanks for the suggestions!

one of my guitarists is currently using a boss me-50 board, it fits inside a gig bag, not sure if they make a bass specific one but i wouldn't be surprised since its boss...

edit: found it http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....dal?sku=151132

they also have this http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....OSM?sku=151433 which is the bass counterpart of what my guitarist has, only its a bit out of your price range.

Yes there is a ME-50B (for bass)

I hated the interface on my ME-50 and got rid of it.

to be honest i would say the best option is the Zoom B2

The interface on it is much more user friendly, and easier to get a hang of. True, its not great if your trying to fiddle with the settings in a live gig situation, but for a practice tool it's good. The only downside to the B2 is it doesn't have an input to bring an external source like an Ipod into.

Digitech do a similar pedal which does have and Input for an ipod etc.

The Zoom B2 has a decent interface and it also has a pcm drum machine with patterns to jam with the only down side is no play along plug in. You might also consider a Tascam Bass Trainer.

Go with the Korg Pandora PX3B. I just got mine off ebay for $60 Canadian.

I stumbled upon a NOS PX4B today for $80.00 USD. Jumped on it!

The more I looked at Korg, the more the format seemed to fit what I wanted to use it for......practice/headphone amp that I can have some fun with and learn new tunes with. Also very portable.

I have a pedal board so it will not be a "live" effects processing unit for me.

Thanks to all for the help. FYI, not being able to plug-in an external MP3 player, etc. with the B2 was a "deal killer" for me.
