The Zoom B2/9 series looks quite promising, but the lack of a good compressor would be a deal breaker for me.
Thanks

no more than three or four effects will be good, another two or three will be passable, and the rest will suck. to date i have found no multi that violates that finding, so it is now law.

Thanks | The B9.1ut has an extra compression model that the B2 doesn't have ('Natural compressor IIRC). This is by far the best model on the unit, such a shame the B2 doesn't have it as you'll see from Bongomania's review, he doesn't rate the B2's compression that highly.
Otherwise, the B9.1ut is a great unit, however, the weak area's IMO are the modulation effect, the chorus is not a patch on the ones on my GT6B. The phaser is pretty good, if quite harsh sounding, and the flanger isn't that great. The amp sims and drive models however are leagues ahead of the drives in the GT6B.
I concur with others, I don't believe there is an all round great multi, there's always going to be good and weak areas, it's up to the user to decide which weak areas they can live with.

has volume pedal & xlr and plenty of room for modifing the effects

There are a lot of good sounds in many multis, but they aren't always very easy to pry from the unit, nor will they necessarily be what you need for your situation. IMO.
There's very few effects on my M13 that are so unpleasant that I couldn't see using on anything, but there are many effects that I would prefer to have singles if an ever expanding board were practical to me. I would prefer a Small Stone to any of the phasers, a Bassballs to any of the filters, or the filter section of the BMS to the triggered filter on the M13; but I can use the M13 equivalent to all of those and feel good about what is coming off of my fingers. OP needs to decide if he can stand that tone sacrifice for convenience and versatility.
Also, one man's suck is another man's holy grail. The three 'good' effects that Jimmy likes on his B2 will probably not be the same three 'good' effects that you like on the B2. IMO |

I use to own a korg ax3000b. I use it with my brother's band and my band. it was an awesome multi-effects processor. right now I own a digitech bp355. it's a pretty cool multi-effects processor. I've recently recorded a song with the digitech bp355 with my band and it sounded totally awesome in the mix. I have use it live with my brother's band and it sounded pretty cool live too. I'm satisfied with the digitech bp355. it's a keeper for me. |

mozar | Good luck getting "Excellent" of much of ANYTHING from a MFx pedal - particularly one under $200.
You can get "Good" and even "Really good" but the best sound will always be separate pedals.
