Multi-preamp set up?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am currently using an Eden Navigator (WP100) and was curious about using a Bass POD Pro with it to get the modeling feature into the signal path. Has anyone tried going into a POD first and then to another preamp? Reason I like the Eden is that is has two channels of output while the POD does not and I am curious about daisy chaining the two preamps. Would appreciate any insight from others on this.

Thanks,
Paul

The one big thing you have to watch out for is that the output of the first preamp will likely overload the input of the second one if you aren't careful with the signal levels. Also, the more gain stages (EQ, preamps, etc.) you put in series, the more noise you get.

People daisy chain preamps all the time, for example with Sansamps. I don't consider it the optimal way to do things (I like things as simple as possible), but plenty of people get good results doing it.

I've put a Bass Pod XT into the preamps of some different amps, and ideally the more transparent the amp the better, but the results I got were usable. Whether you'll want to use them or not is a matter of personal taste. I even liked some of the cabinet models, in particular the Marshall 4 x 12" with greenbacks had a nice growl paired with the Ampeg head model, but ultimately I sold off my bass pod because amp modeling isn't my thing.

Why not just use the Pod? The Eden model is pretty good.

I want two channels to run a stereo direct feed to the board. The POD only has a single output.

There are cheaper and simpler ways to split your signal to stereo than an Eden pre-amp.

Seriously! Even a Y cable would work, going into a two-channel DI box. Heck, I think Radial makes a two-channel DI with a built-in Y splitter function.
