Multicomp settings

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all,

I have a question for you. I have my multicomp set up and i have noticed that when i slap with it on, he peak light comes on on my amp (when i hit the low notes) but if i do not have it on, there is no peak. There is no noticible difference in volume when it is off and on so i think that the gain is set correctly, i have the comp knob up to about 1:00. The highs sound good but the lows are the problem. My question is, on the internal trim pots for the sensitivity in MB mode, which way do i turn them to make the compressor kick in quicker, clockwise or counter clockwise? The manual is not very specific on this.
Thanks!
Jeremy

You may not be noticing a gain difference BECAUSE of the compression. I have the gain backed all the way off on mine as otherwise it provides a boost. Just try backing the gain off on the pedal, set the compression to however suits and don't bother with the trim pots. I find the MB setting best for me overall, although I do use the tube sim mode now and again.

Turn the trimmers clockwise for a higher threshold, counterclockwise for a lower threshold.

Oh, and also the initial transient spike of your slap sneaks past that compressor due to its preset attack time; and gain is added post-compression; so that initial spike is hotter with the compressor on. It's a tricky balancing act. I think I recall the MB mode has a faster attack than the other modes, but I could be remembering incorrectly.

Comp usually between 12 or 1 o'clock with most basses. Gain fully anticlockwise, mode on MB as I said.
