This all started about 8pm local time today when I ran the updater program for Line 6 stuff: Monkey. Another ****ing update. "Well at least GearBox [the PC editor for the POD] now
works with the X3. A lot of people should be happier now!" I said to myself. And yes, I said it aloud

"Maybe I can transfer some of my old tones from my xt now...."
After some searching (of which there was very little), I find that GearBox is not free. Line 6 Edit (for the xt) was free.... But not GB. As I've said before (and in my review of the X3 iirc, im to lazy to check), the X3 doesnt neccesarily
need an editor, but you can't "translate" xt tone files with Monkey itself. And im not paying 100 bucks just for the ability to do so.
Suddenly I realized that Line 6 had developed what I like to call "Microsoft Syndrome". So far, in the
one month since Ive had the unit, there have been at least 3 updates. Never mind that the editor everyone on the Line 6 forum has been screaming for now has a cost when one has never to my knowledge been mentioned. I guess im just glad that none of my tones has had any major sonic changes. It still seems a little rediculus, 3 updates in a month. And thats just the flash memory. There has been at least 2 USB updates, and a driver one to.
Not to say that Line 6 is the only one to release stuff and fix it as it goes. Looking back on all the research I did on multies, I remember that one of the reasons why I didnt get one of the Boss GT series was that I would have to update it. Thru MIDI. Which would have been more cost than its worth IMO. It seems that the more digital stuff becomes (especially computer conectivity-wise), the more rushed the product seems to be, Vista being the latest PC version of this problem that I have heard of. Hence "Microsoft" syndrome. They're big, they can take it
I've actually been looking thru some of the multi-vs-singles threads that have popped up over the years, and the one thing Ive started to think more often when reading them is: "Singles cant be upgraded easily" If people buy it and it sucks, it gets returned, and other people dont buy it based on the first peoples reviews of it. With multies, especially in the USB plug'n'play era that we've entered, you have two more camps of people: Those that will wait for upgrades, and those who will buy it when the upgrades happen.
The apparent rushedness of the POD is one of the reasons im looking into getting an amp thats an analog as I can. You cant sell an amp if the output drops off at all, but apparently you can with the POD. I still plan on useing the POD tho. Im gonna use it as a pre when I get the power amp and cab im gassing for. Then I can spread out the cost of the whole rig.
[insert deity of choice] knows that ill add FX to it later, but not near as much as any of my previous setups. I guess the one good thing to come out of being addicted to WoW for the last year, is that im able to return to the bass with a different perspective on things.
Maybe ive gained a little maturity? NO WAI!!!!!!
Just my 2 cents. This is just a rant, and im posting it on the net cus I wanna feel like a big man
