multiple effects at same time on multi effects

I've been looking at the zoom b2, and the korg ax3000b
I see that both have fuzz and both have svt modeling.... it looks like at least on the zoom that the ampeg modeling and the fuzz are BOTH in the drive section. Does that mean you'd have to choose one or the other and not be able to use them together? would it be the same on the korg?

That is the way it is set up with all the distortions and amp models in the drive section. What i do is use pedals for my overdrives and the Zoom for amp sims and other efx.

Poomwah, do NOT go with the Korg for SVT modeling or Fuzz! Believe me, you will be disappointed.

Multi-effects sound like a great idea - they eliminate the need to carry around a bunch of stompboxes, just one power supply and one cable and you're done, right?

There are so many tradeoffs though. Digital modeling has gotten better over the years, but rarely does it come close to nailing the original of whatever it attempts to model. You can run into latency problems sometimes as well, and bypass is never that great.

It's best to narrow down the effects you really need and get individual stompboxes. It's more money and more setup trouble, but often you'll be happier with your tone.

I think I read that the Korg wasn't so hot with amp models. The Zoom is really pretty good. It's not as accurate as the Pods with the details of the knobs etc, but easier to use IME.

You know...if you wait for deals on used pedals you may get something really amazing relatively cheap in the TB classifieds. I've gotten some amazing deals here on some really nice pedals.

I've got a line on a B2 with power supply for 60 bucks shipped. that should take care of my chorus, delay, and flange, and give me a usable tuner for now. I'd like to go with individual pedals, but I've got a few bucks now, and won't have any more for a VERY long time, if ever. so i have to make the best of what I can get now.
I'm not after amp modeling, I like the way my amp sounds, it gets the grit I want if I turn the gain up, but I don't want to have to walk over to my amp in the middle of a song and crank the gain knob :P
so how about a drive pedal and then the zoom? I know that wouldn't be as good as seperate pedals, but 60 bucks is really hard to pass up.

I own it, so I was speaking from experience in my above post.

Sure, go for it. Just don't depend on the Zoom for your tone, you may be disappointed. Obviously SVT is a sound you're going for, and I have heard that amp modeling on Zoom units is better than most, so if you are disappointed $60 isn't too great a loss. Keep an eye on the VT Bass as well if you don't like the Zoom.

Sounds like a good deal for 60 bucks. The Zoom B2 plays well with other efx and using a drive with it is exactly what I do with good results. OTOH the drives in the Zoom are OK and with a bit of adjusting you may find them acceptable with your amp to get you that switchable set up you are looking for.
