Muse - City of delusion bass solo? continually opening filter?

Sign in to disble this ad
im trying to imitate the sound of city of delusion, it sounds like a filter continually opening at a constant rate. i can get the sound of the effect from my BSW, but not opening like that.

is this triggered by an expression pedal, continually opening the filter? if so, it looks like im finally going to replace my BSW, i never really found much of a use for it in band setting, any recommendations? BSW was too violent sounding for my bands tastes :P

what have the people tried/heard about the enigmas exp. capabilities?

Sounds kind of like a vocoder or a very formant filter to me. I know that you can get something close to that with the BSW on one of the synth settings, with the vocal wah on the ModFactor (with an expression pedal you can get very close), you might get something like that with a Bassballs and a LPF after it, or maybe a talk box.

Pretty sure he uses a BSW with an expression pedal and just slowly pushes it down, not sure what setting the BSW's on though, enver had one, can't be too tricky to figure out though

The trickiest part would be figuring out how to plug an expression pedal into a BSW

Quite right you are, on actually checking what I remembered, it's a volume pedal, I'd imagine it's just infront of the BSW, it's an envelope filter, so it's pretty obvious what'd happen

I actually believe, based on the fact that he tours with them, and his new pedal board setup, that it is the Line 6 FM4 with an expression pedal...

But I do not have one to try out, so I am not certain.

well that says exp. pedal..... but into what? can the line 6 take one?

volume pedal could work, having it run into the bsw would make the filter open.... but it sounds like chris is playing harder as the solo continues. the bsw i own gets pretty touchy if you dont set it right and play at the right intensity

You can control any parameter on the fm4 you want with an expression pedal, I'll have a listen sometime and see if I can replicate with with my M13

I reckon FM4 (the purple one yeh?) with expression pedal. Think I read that somewhere actually. I've no idea when he has ever used the BSW live.

The BSW is used in Sunburn live... I know that for a fact. Possibly in Take a Bow, at least I have heard him use it in there once.

Setting three, with a long slow sweep...

The FM4 is the ticket. I am getting one soon... First, DOD FX25, and then the FM4

If you want a cheap alternative, find a cheap auto wah and slow down the filter speed and depth

I think $250 is cheap for that effect, or 14 others... Just saying.

Somewhere around here there is a thread about modding the BMS to accept an expression pedal. It's not that difficult if you can swing a soldering iron.

ive never modded my pedals before, but i was thinking of making a pedal as a summer holiday project (australian summer that is)

can't wait to finish my hsc and have a huge break ><

and totallybacan, can i do that with myt BSW? i think the envelope filter will stop that from happening as its triggered by spikes in the signal, right?

I believe a fuzz going into an envelope filter going into a foot-controlled wah would work quite nicely for that kind of sound.

Problem for me is I'd have to hack and whack on a few more DOD's before I'd feel comfortable digging that far into my much harder to replace BMS.

To me it sounds like you could get it with a FX25 with a volume pedal after it.

Here are two shots of his pedal board from the Absolution/OoS era. The FM4 is on the board, but when BHaR came out... It was in a rack, with his others. He has an expression pedal with Midi control through a rocktron.

I am almost sure it is this effect...
