Muting a rack tuner in live situation

Sign in to disble this ad
How do people mute there bass when using a rackmount tuner live.. as usually the di is taken before it gets to the rack tuner so the mute button on the amp or tuner is useless as the sound of u tuning is coming out of front of house.

is it jsut a matter of sending your lead to an a/b box and splitting a signal to the tuner seperately?

Yes. And... some rack tuners will have a footswitch jack, in which you would connect a latching footswitch.

you could just set your rack up so your tuner is in line before your DI.

I could but doesn't sending your bass signal through a rack tuner mess with your tone before getting to the DI?

You could. If you wanted to mute it, you'd have to still have a mute function somewhere.

Depends on the the bypass circuit of the tuner. Some have a lotta tone-suck, others have very little. Still, others are true bypass.

Most rack tuners have a footswitch out, or at minimum a mute button on the front of them.

HI

I had the same problem. I sold my rack tuner and got a Peterson Strobostomp. Way easier and the best tuner on the market. Will solve your problem instantly

I use the DI out on my amp and plug the tuner into the tuner out of the amp. When I mute the amp the tuner works, but no sound comes from the FOH or amp.

That's what I do, too . . . it works fine.

And, FWIW, I've got both the StoboStomp and the Stroboflip . . . for stage use I prefer the Stroboflip. YMMV.
