MXR Auto Q into a LBM, anyone try it?

I have some money left over after my big effects sell-a-thon. I was thinking of geting an MXR Bass Auto Q. I was wondering what it would be like putting it in front of my Lil Big Muff like I did with my BR-2 that I just sold. I liked the BR-2 but just wasn't completely satisfied with it. Anyone?

I love my Bass Auto Q and think its actually the most usable filter pedal I own. I had a LBM until recently and the two went very well together. I sold the LBM as I just dont need such an insane fuzz.

The Bass Auto Q is not perfect. Its not true bypass, and its not quite as squelchy and deep sounding as my Mini Q Tron. But the volume control is invaluable, it has just the right amount of tweakability, its biult like a tank and it reacts well with active or passive basses.

My Mini Q Tron needed a compressor after it to tame the volume spike, and it was so damn sensitive that you had to re adjust it everytime I changed anything on my bass's eq.

You cant lose in my opinion. It has a pretty good bypass and sounds fantastic. The shimmer effect is pretty unique and cool as well. Highly recommended!!!

Volume and sensitivity were the issues of the day with the BR-2. So I never used it that much in a live situation. Not sure how Justin Chancellor uses his so successfully live...of course he's also using a Tonebender not a LBM...maybe that's it. Anywho.. When I engaged my BR-2 there was to much of a volume loss. As well the sensitivity had to be dialed in just right...I mean very very tiny turn of the dial...then you had to watch how hard you struck the string....kinda hard to do when your playing balls out in a metal band.

The thing about the BR-2 is that it's very selectively used by Justin Chancellor on a select few tracks. For example, he turns it on and off for a few specific single notes in "Jambi", and only uses it on a short passage in "Rosetta Stoned."

It's probably the least used effect on his board - everything else sees a LOT more action than his BR-2 ever will! It's not that hard to use if A) you're building songs around the sounds it makes, and B) you're using it for less than 30 seconds at every gig.

Yeah that's what I tried doing actually. There were four notes that I tried using it in, in a certain song of ours. It works great and sounds good by myself. When with the band mix it gets burried. I was hoping that the volume on the Auto Q might fix that.

Hey,

I just did a search and dug up this thread. Would I regret or even notice that the MXR does not have true bypass? Don't ask what else I'm using, because I'm just beginning to put together my pedal board in my head.

Also, what is the "shimmer" feature all about anyway?

Thanks.
