MXR Bass Octave Deluxe question...the saga continues

Sign in to disble this ad
My internet connection has been weird today...sorry if this post happens twice. This one is the shortened version.

Here's a video of the issue with my new MXR Bass Octave Deluxe pedal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StPciuP1H5s

When the volume is up on my instrument and the pedal is engaged, there is a clock noise when I turn up either of the octave controls. When the volume on my instrument is down, this is not an issue.

This is not a power issue...and I've sent it to Dunlop. They looked at the pedal and said that it is normal for their circuit. I'm new to the world of analogue octave circuits, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks guys.

Sounds like you have some sound coming from your setup, and the octave petal is working off the sound and giving you the octave below.

not from my setup

...that sound is still present when I plug any of my basses into it directly and then out into the amp directly...

Just a random thought...
What if you bought another one from your local music store, tested it out, then returned it?

Have you tried it on a battery? My SMMH had loads of clock noise but only when on a shared daisy chain.

If this fixes it, either use a battery, an isolated power supply or a Gig Rig Virtual Battery / Diago Isolation Adapter.

I know some of my pedals don't like to be powered AND have a battery in it at the same time. Is there a battery in yours?

I have the MXR Bass Octave Deluxe and I have heard nothing but silence through it.

Happy ending

hey guys,

just want to follow up. I haven't received the pedal yet, but Derek @ Dunlop Tech Support was fantastic to deal with and everyone over there has handled this situation to my satisfaction. They sent a pre-paid shipping label to me and are replacing my pedal.

good job dunlop!
