After hearing so many rave reviews of the MXR Blowtorch, perhaps that could be THE distortion pedal for me.
Unfortunately, it's like $300 bucks in my country. Perhaps I could make do with a BOSS bass overdrive or a Big Muff in the meantime.
Of course, if my check comes in and I end up with two amplifiers, layered, then perhaps I will only require a stompbox that can deliver really buzzy distortion, the kind you would hear on "H" by Tool. I like that.

But it's reallly not a distortion pedal, more of a fuzz pedal on steroids. It can create a buzzy "Chainsaw" effect that really hits me in the shorts. I wouldn't trade it ever.
If that fits you, then get it. I do have another distortion pedal on my board, used for more "traditional" distortion .
There are numerous threads on Justin Chancellors setup here on TB, search for it. I think he uses a Proco Rat. Paul (1st Tool Bassist), not so sure. |

It is well made, lots of controls for tweaking and is not a noisy pedal. But I do agree it can be like a buzzsaw. It is a better sounding buzzsaw than the Boss ODB-3 but, IMO, to my ears it did not produce a thick, thick fuzz sound. Currently I am using an EH Little Big Muff. I love the sound but find the pedal adds wayy too much noise to my signal. So, sigh, I am still on the quest for my perfect fuzz.

I wanted to like it for the same reasons but in the end the tone wasn't what I'd hoped for.
It finally ended up taking a dump on me after a power supply error on my part and I really haven't looked back since.
Others like it though, so your opinion may vary. |

I have a LBM too, I love it except for the mid scoop.
one of these days I will actually build my paramuff! (LBM with a one-band parametric EQ)
