MXR Carbon Copy versions

Sign in to disble this ad
I am looking to buy a MXR Carbon Copy, and I have a question related to that. I understand (correct me if I'm wrong) that there are at least two versions of the Carbon Copy out there, with the main difference being the modulation. How can I tell the difference between versions of the Carbon Copy, so I know what I'm buying?

Look at the resistance value of R7(?). There's a thread on here discussing it.

tho i do not know the answer... that is not the right answer.

too different delays, tonally they are so different.

i have no opinions on which is better, the V1 or V2. works well for bass.

I have V1 and did the resistor mod myself. This only effects the modulation, giving it a depth that is more audible than it was before.

That`s actually why it is the 'right' answer

shudder.....

if i had to choose one delay. in that 150 bracket that i've tried. it would probably be the carbon copy. but i dont have to choose just one delay in that bracket, hence i have a few delays, think dmm, 600D and more.
dont even have a carbon copy for now.....

but everyone has their own whistles and bells. if the ot is thinking about a cc, and already have flagged off meomory boys... good ears
if you haven't tried them out, then go try them out!

I've been listening to a lot of sound clips, and hearing a lot of horror stories about EHX screwing up their QA on the Memory series, especially the Memory Toy. On both counts, I like the Carbon Copy better.

As for what others have said so far: so the difference is some part in the modulation, and there's no way to tell the difference externally? I was hoping there would be SOME visible difference, because I was looking at buying used and wanted to make sure of what I was getting. Oh well, thank you all for the answers, anyway.

I started to play with the Memory boy/toy at work and I like their delay sound but the modulation is horrid.

as some of you know i'm currently seeking a delay....

I tried the carbon copy in the store and from the few minutes i had to play with it i didn't really care for it....

however flash forward a few months and one has popped in almost new condition locally at such a good price i'm starting to re-consider

and i have a technical question

the internal trim pots for modulation....can this pedal only do square wave?

for my personal taste my ear seems to prefer traingle wave

so my question is my adjusting the internal trim pots can i achieve triangle wave modulation?

There is a trim pot to adjust the modulation inside of the Carbon Copy, but the difference when tweaked isn't that much. The problem 'for me' was that the modulation on effects the Delayed notes and not the original note. Some will like it with only the delayed notes modulating.

I'm pretty sure that trim pot only changes depth of modulation, not the wave type.

right. But it's change is minor... not a broad change.

well i pulled the trigger on the MXR Carbon Copy....picked it up super cheap.....and with the mix at about 2 or 3 o'clock it's all good

pic later as I'm now having to re-arrange my board...lol

Edit:

Board with Carbon Copy added

so far i'm digging the settings as follows:

Delay @ roughly 1 o'clock
Regen @ roughly 11 o'clock
Mix @ roughly 2 o'clock

works well for my playing style and favorite genre
