Which MXR Compressor?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm currently using a BBE OptoStomp Compressor and I'm looking at getting an MXR. I'm not crazy about the OptoStomp though it does the job. I mainly use the compressor to even out my poor slap technique and I don't need it with fingers. I like the MXRs as they are the smallest things out there and every inch on the board counts. I've noticed there is a DynaComp, a Custom Comp, and a Super Comp. Ok, what gives? Any recommendations or comments on these?

I did miss that one, but it doesn't seem to be for sale anywhere. The 4-knob keeley has a great rep for guitarists. Is it equally good with bass?

The Keeley is excellent for chicken picking, which imples that it may not be good for bass.

I'm waiting for the MXR comp to be available. If it's good, I'll ditch my Opto Stomp.

I think I'll just wait on that new pretty MXR bass compressor.

well I for one am happy to see them making a dedicated bass one. I used to run a Dynacomp but it really sucked the low end out for me. top and mids stuff sounded great, but i really had to crank the bass knob on my amp quite high. I have since gone to a T.C. unit and never looked back.

If you are compressing for slap, the new one will be FAR superior to anything they have available right now. You really need the variety of variable controls to get a great slap tone.

FWIW, I was going to get the MXR but decided not to wait and get the FEA Opti-FET. It is a little more expensive, but it has some additional features that allow for an amazing amount of flexibility. I am getting the best slap tone I have ever gotten.
