MXR custom comp??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey is anyone using the MXR Custom Comp yet on their bass? I am looking for a good pedal comp(having owned the bbe, boss limiter) now realizing that I am looking for something that is going to cost more money. I have been looking for the Aguilar, EBS, or perhaps the markbass. I normally live in Ontario Canada, however I am in San Jose for about a month and figured that I would take a look at some BIGGER stores.

NO LUCK!!! i don't want to drive to LA to look for gear, so I went to GC(please dont hate) as I wanted to get a PT-mini and I can save about $25 getting it here than at home. And I mentioned that I was looking... they have a markbass but no power supply(12V) and a MXR custom comp...

I was skeptical at first, but after we found a correct power supply, i was impressed...

I was hoping there might have been others that have tried it,

I may still have them order the TLC as it would be here in a few days and give it a try too. Only downside is that I have to pay up front. I can return it in store if I don't like it. Unfortunately I have to use store gear as none of my stuff is here.

Any insight or previous experiences would be great. Or places to go to see if I can try some other stuff. EBS, Aguilar, Diamond. I don't get the high end stuff so I would love to try some... got to try a fretless 4003 in all maple today... WOW now I know what the hype is.

Thanks All

Adam

The MXR Custom Comp is just their regular Dynacomp with some better components--in other words they are trying to get in on the market of Keeley, Retrosonic, Analogman, and all 300 other "boutique" cloners of the same circuit. For a 4-string bass they are OK but not great; for a 5-string or downtuned bass they are a waste of money.

how much better is the TLC then? I havn't ever had a change to see or play one. I didn't find it that bad, I found it way way better than the BBE opto-stomp. Havn't tried a dyna comp though. Should I spend the 50 more dollars for the TLC?

need some help guys. Thanks Bongo.

i have looked and read them ALL. I would love to be able to go somewhere and try everything. But I don't have that option. Since you didn't review it and basically said that it was a dyna comp, in your opinion is the TCL that much better or should I look for something else?

I picked up an EBS MultiComp from a TB'er a few days ago and I'm pretty sure that my compressor search is now officially over.

Agreed. I love my multicomp! Spendy, but worth it.
