MXR El Grande Bass fuzz?

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone used this pedal before? Was fairly impressed with it when I saw the demo on youtube, and looks like it could be the pedal to achieve the evil sound I want.

If anyone else has a recommendation for a demonic pedal, it would be much appreciated

Cheers,
Jordan

it does have a pretty wicked sound. it has a very hot output - TOO hot for my purposes, but you can pick these up CHEAP - can't go wrong for $50 bones. I wouldn't pay full price for one though, and it's far from the best bass fuzz ever. At the end of the day, it's still a souped-up big muff.

When I first got mine, I was having problems with it. It has a definite threshold on how you have to play through it. If you play fast, the fuzz will drop out of the signal and leave the notes that come through flat or sounding as if you are muting them when you're not. Basically the pedal doesn't track your playing very well.

However, if you are playing slower, rythmic stuff, then this pedal really packs a lot of fuzz. Especially with the "Deep" button engaged. This little guy has a lot of bite. I've picked up a standard distortion pedal for what the El Grande can't do. However, what the El Grande can do, it does very well. I also think I got a lemmon because no one else seems to notice the "issue" I have with mine with thiers. I also run active pickups, and that might come into play since this is an analog stomp.

Do a thread search. There are several threads on the El Grande alone in this section of the forums. You will find plenty of talk about it. I like what this pedal does when it does it. I'm going to send it off to a pedal geek to see if a widget inside is f'd.

Ummmm.... fuzz doesn't track. Not a simple one like this, anyway. Sounds like a muting technique issue to me

I have one, and think it's pretty good for the most part. The deep switch is pretty handy if you set it up for a more vintage type fuzz, since the bottom can drop out. And a +1 to how hot this sucker is! I don't think I've ever had the volume knob past 9 o'clock.
