MXR M-288 BOD LED annoyance FIXED

So, I'm really into this octaver. Of the 3 I've owned its my favorite. I'm very annoyed by the button for mid-boost. Even when the pedal isn't engaged the mid+ LED stays on. It really throws me off when i look at my board and see a LED that essentially means nothing to me, as I leave the mid boost on all the time....its one of the reasons I like this octaver so much.

Do any of you DIY'ers know what i can do to defeat or remove this LED. I have no experience with soldering, but our tech could help me if needed.

I really wish MXR did the normal thing and put a standard toggle switch here....ARRGGHH!!!

haha...done like a true caveman. i opened the box, took out the board and gently did a 360 motion on the LED until the legs came off of the board. works fine. the battery connector came out easy too, while i was in there. it actually is meant to pull right out.

no more annoying, always on, bright a** blue LED, telling me the mid+ is on...which it always is. btw, the mid+ is a bit more subtle if the trim pot for the boost is turned just slightly counterclockwise.

Old thread, sorry, but it's kind of relevant.

What's the current draw like on the battery when the BOD is bypassed but the mid button is engaged? As the OP says even with the effect off the MID light is on if engaged.

Well, as far as I know, it is the same as it is when the effect is not bypassed, as the bypass reroutes the signal...it doesn't turn off the effects circutry, it only puts the signal through it or bypasses it.

Sorry, didn't explain myself very well. When I'm playing and have the BOD in-line but I'm not using the octave effect the MID indicator light is still on because when I do use the octave effect I like the MID selected. Will this drain the battery or does the LED on it's own use so little power that it will have no noticeable affect on battery life?

It'll suck an extra 5mA or so... in effect, yes, your battery will be drained quicker with this LED on dang it's sweet blueness!
