MXR M-80 DI - COLOR SWITCH - EQ Settings?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm running an SVT-4Pro/810 stack, and found that the MXR M-80 with the color switch engaged really gets bass tone into a sweet spot that I really like. I really want to ditch the pedal since I'm not using it for a DI or for the distortion. Which brings me to my question:

Does anyone know, or have a way of finding out what the EQ curve is with the color switch engaged? I'd love to just dial in something similar with my svts onboard eq so I don't have to lug the pedal around.

Any help is appreciated!

First off, I love that you consider bringing the pedal "lugging" considering your amp set up . I'm pretty sure it's a mid scoop, though looking in the manual didn't help with a frequency range, but when I had it, I used it as a "slap" switch.

Yeah, I know it's a small pedal - but I'm just trying to get everything off the floor. I thought about just racking the pedal, but would rather just get close with the amp eq.

I think in addition to the mid scoop there is a bit of a boost in both the highs and lows (80-100hz?). But thanks for the info. I wonder if Dunlop would have a tech sheet available or would even disclose what it does specifically.

A frequency analysis test would give you the answer. There was a test done before on the SansAmp Bass Driver DI (BDDI) in trying to figure out where and how it scoops the mids. Very informative stuff. Here's the thread:

Semi-Scientific SansAmp BDDI Analysis

You could use a similar approach as scotch to figure out what the Color switch is doing. Analyze a flat signal from the M-80 as your control, then press the Color switch, and analyze again.

BTW, if you happen to perform this test, be sure to post the results!

Here's a link to forum where a guy has done just what you're asking for. It's shows the exact EQ curve when the color button is engaged.
