MXR M-80 Question for ya

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Sansamp VT Bass pedal. I want to get a distortion pedal that will layer a distorted signal tone over the tone I'm getting from the VT. I'd love to get a tone similar to the one in the attached clip, if I can. Will the M-80 do this?

Is the 1/4" out a line-level signal?

IMO it can get close, but not as smooth. Youd turn the gain up and the blend down so that you can juuuuust hear the high gain clipping with the M80, but i found it to be edgier and more aggressive sounding than that clip.

I wanna say no. The distortion on it doesn't really sound like that. That kind of distortion sounds like OD to me and the M-80 has a pretty crappy standard distortion sound. You could get pretty close to that with an ODB3.

How much have you actually played with the M-80? It's a pretty versatile box.

Put the blend and gain at 10:00 and I think you'll get pretty close to the tone you're after.

the distortion isn't lacking in as much as it isn't everyones cup of tea. but for this clip, Id sooner go with a typical OD like the Fulltone or something!
