MXR M-88 Bass Octave...pedal not working

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello Gents and Ladies...

I recently purchased an MXR M-88 Bass Octave pedal used from a music store on eBay. Pedal was described as working as should and it looks almost brand new. Problem...i get it in the mail and I can't tell that the octave is working. I've tried different 9 volts, a 9 volt adaptor, and still no luck.

When I plug into it...my uneffected tone is clear but when I engage the pedal if the volume isn't up all the way on the pedal then I get a big cut in volume. Once the volume is turned all the way up...and my octave knob is turned all the way up...there is no effect. If I turn the octave knob while playing then there is an audible spike in volume but still no effect.

Any thoughts? Should I send this off to MXR?

Thanks!

Yeah, either that or get a refund.

I'd say try the refund first.

I went ahead and got 1/2 back from the dealer because he was refusing to take a refund and I really wanted the pedal.

Any suggestions on getting it fixed? Anyone ever had to send something off to MXR.

Maybe http://www.analogman.com/ . I tried to get a Tube Zipper fixed by him but he suggested Electro Harmonix and some other guy. I went with EH in the end. But yeah email him. He will either say yes or no.

Thanks for the advice...I'll look into Analogman for the repair. I'm also going to contact MXR just to find out what they would charge and what the turn around time would be.

The thing about MXR is that pedal is discontinued. But my fingers are crossed for you.

OH yeah...didn't think about that and whether or not it would affect their ability to repair it. Hopefully it won't affect it...but if so then it is definitely off to Analogman.

Take it to a music store and tell them your dilemma.

Ummm, you bought it used on eBay. If you paid via PayPal, contact them and stop the payment. You were sold a functioning pedal and that is not what you received. Don't let the seller get away with that. Your biggest weapon is that you can leave negative feedback and he can't leave negative feedback against you.

It's actually cool...I'd rather just keep the pedal and get it fixed. If it doesn't work out...then oh well IMO. I got a super cheap price on it and got enough money back to fix it.
