mxr m80 issues with active preamp

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got an ibanez atk, my first active bass, and I'm finding that if i crank the mids on the bass the preamp starts to clip. It is definitely the M80, as when I reduce the output of my bass but increase the output (or simply turn off) of the m80 the clipping stops. I usually dont have the mids up that high so it isnt much of an issue, but has anyone else ever had this problem?

I've got an ATK as well and have a suggestion that may help. There's a small trimpot inside the control cavity on the ATK's that adjusts the preamp output level. I've found that my ATK can be very hot (even with the EQ flat) depending on where this trimmer is set. If that trimmer is cranked, I can definitely see where you'd be clipping the M80 by cranking your mids.
