MXR M80 Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all...I ran a few searches and can't find anything on the following. I recently purchased a MXR M80 Bass DI pedal and it's really noisy. With the pedal is switched on, there is a very noticeable loud hiss that is constant. When the distortion is switched on it goes through the roof with the hiss. It pretty much drowns out the tone of the pedal. Once the pedal is in bypass, the hiss goes away. I have tried new batteries and made sure I was using the correct power supply. The gate has no effect on this problem either. So anyway, it's loud enough that I know it's not normal so I was hoping maybe someone had experience with this. Thanks!

turn the treble on the EQ down, and gain and the volume.

I have this problem with my 10band EQ. If I add any treble the hiss is terrible. Try leaving the EQ flat and the gain/volume at unity or just below. that should work.

Yeah, I have turned the treble down but it's still an unacceptable amount of hiss coming through. All settings flat and pretty much cut...still crazy hiss. This has got to be a faulty pedal or something. I cant see any soundman worth his salt living with this as a DI box. And with the distortion channel kicked it...it's just nasty ridiculous amount of hiss. It's not just on the DI side but through my rig also. Just crazy.

Mine is noisy too, but apparently not as bad as yours. Turn the gate fully clockwise, that helps. I got a noise reduction pedal, for this and other noisy pedals. ISP Decimator, $125, Musicians Friend. Absolute silence, no tone loss. Great solution for a variety of noise problems.

i'm starting to think so also.

If you have got it in a daisy chain, try isolating the pedal with a single wall wart, if you still get the hum, then its the pedal.

Never experienced any problems with my M-80 it´s pretty quiet, I leave it on all the time with lots of treble and never noticed any hiss even with the distortion engaged.
