MXR M80 Question With GK Amp

Sign in to disble this ad
This might be confusing, I just confused myself making this post...

I have a GK 700RBII with a 210 avatar cab setup right now. I was wondering, if I plug the MXR M80 into the effects loop, will it make the EQ controls on the head bypass? I like the tone I get out of my current setup, I just want to use the pedal to beef the tone up a little bit more, not completely change it, if that makes any sense. So with the MXR engaged, will changing the presence or bass knobs for example on the head do nothing? Is the only way to change the tone through the pedal?

I ask because I messed around with this on my small SWR practice amp and changing the settings on the amp did nothing. I could only change the EQ through the M80. I won't be able to mess around with my rig until the weekend, so I'm just wondering now.

Thanks for any help!
Joe

As I understand it with this head you have three main options.

A) plug bass into input, then have your M80 in the effects loop. In this case the eq on the head will be applied to the signal before it reaches the M80.

B) Plug bass into M80 and then into input of the amp, in this case the M80 will be applied before the eq.

C) Plug bass into M80 and then into effects return on amp. This will only apply the M80 eq to the sound and bypass the amp eq.

I hope this makes sense!

The M80 is meant to be used in front of your amp, iow, plug bass into M80, output to amps input. Generally, fx loops on amps are meant for line level devices, such as rack gear. Option B above is your best friend.
