MXR M82 + Bass Big Muff?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys! New member here!

I just want to ask about something...hope you could answer me...I am a noob in the music scene, and I am in the process of completing my rig. Here is the order:

Bass > Bass Big Muff > OC-3 > MXR M82 > Amp

I'm trying to emulate that "Sir Psycho Sexy" sound, and I'm just wondering if the combination of the BBM and the M82 is enough. I've read on countless forums that the BBM has a slight compression function. From what I have also learned, compressors in front of a filter would "confuse" the filter because it depends on the playing dynamics. I also noticed that the combination - although it does copy the sound well - does not get the smooth "Aaaww" sound. Instead of "curvy" filters, I tend to hear "flat," shrieking sounds. I even compared it with the OC-3 in drive mode (without the octave), and ironically the M82+OC-3 combo gets that curvy sound that I am looking for. Does this mean that the "compression" feature of the BBM is responsible for this, or is this just normal for any other kind of filter+fuzz combo?

Am I the only one who has noticed this? Are my assumptions correct? With that said, should I replace the BBM with the El Grande Bass Fuzz or the ODB-3? Thank you!
