MXR M82 Env Filter - LED too bright???

Sign in to disble this ad
So I dig this piece, but the blue LED is so darned bright that it kind of "drowns out" all the rest of the pedal lights... The solutions for this are obvious (a piece of tape or something) but I was wondering if I'm the only guy who has observed this...

The LED is very bright, even compared to other MXR pedals. It doesn't bother me though.

The one on the MXR Blowtorch is crazy bright as well. Used to work like a mini light for my pedalboard

You could always put a less bright led in. I'm sure one of those DIY type guys could talk you through it. But yea tape would definitely be easier.

oh, I have the skills/tools to replace the LED should I want to - but a piece of tape will do the trick, should I care enough.

I was just curious if others have seen this, or if it was just me.

Some of the pictures I've seen of the MXR Carbon Copy are the same way. Super bright blue LED.

Didn't you know that super bright LEDs make a pedal extraspecialcoolericios, why spoil it?

I guess it's just a "Feature". A really bright, arguably annoying feature...

Blue LED's cause cancer. The medical companies must be paying MXR extra money to use them.

Take a white piece of notebook paper and use a hole punch to punch out a dot. Place dot on clear tape, tape over LED.

Painters tape works as well if you want something easier to peel off. No white paper dot needed.

Yep, I use a few tiny squares cut out of simple cheap masking tape.
Two or three layers of it dulls the blinding blue pain nicely.

I often soldier a resister in line with the LEDs to tame them Down plus it improves battery life.

Funny that players used to complain about not having LED's, or dim LED's, and now they're too bright.

Gotta love a pedalboard that looks like a cityscape at night, though.

My M82 just came in about an hour ago. Even in a well lit room, standing right above it it is blinding! Sounds pretty cool though.

It's not as bright as that of the Opto Stomp.

That LED almost blinded me the first time I turned my M82 on. I tripped on my board and almost went T.U.

+1 on silly bright. I prefer older LED's. I want an indication that the effect is on, not accent lighting on me while I play.

My Carbon Copy and M82 Env Filter have annoyingly bright LEDs - doesn't impact the fact I'm extremenly happy with how the pedals sound, very happy in that respect.

But I have to turn the pedal off to change my settings, since I can't see where the settings are when the LED is on. Seriously!

Here's a pic of my board before those two pedals were added, but the burst of blue below is courtesy of a MXR Black Label Chorus and Way Huge Pork Loin (which are still on the board with the Carbon Copy and M82 Env Filter added. One hell of a bright board now ... lol) :

Picture says a thousand words. Yeah, my MXR BEF is the brightest light in my board and my guitarist's Carbon Copy is the brightest on his.
