Mine just came in today as well but I had alot of other things to do so I only got to tinker with it for a little bit. Once I get some quality time with it though I'll post it here. From the little bit I played on it I liked it, exactly what I was looking for in an envelope filter.

Contact Uriah Duffy. He seems to like it.

+1. I've had very limited play time on mine so far just because I didn't pick it up till late and I don't want to be a dick to my entire dorm but from the little bit I've played this thing is sweet! If I had to describe it one word it would be "wet" . Consider that a preliminary analysis

Ok...got to play with it for a few hours now. The sound that Uriah Duffy gets on his demo video is how this unit sounds. He pretty much shows exactly what you're gonna get. Not a very versatile filter, but it does get one very good tone. The tone is really clean (if that's possible on filters) and it's very predictable...not that it's a bad thing.

The term “wet” is very subjective when describing envelope filters. I’d call the M82 “moist”. Definitely not as greasy and slippery like the WMD Super Fatman and the EHX Enigma. With the decay knob at zero, you’ll get a “hiccup” reminiscent to the DOD FX25B, which is what I like about this unit. To me overall, it sounds a lot like the FX25B, but without the volume dip and the loss of low end.

Is this my end all be all filter? No. Am I disappointed? No. This is a very good sounding filter that’s pretty much plug-n-play. It has a distinct “pop” that I can’t get on the two above mentioned filters.

The three sample sound settings on the manual are very useless. Actually, they are horrible.

I picked mine up tonight and I like it. Like the others posted, the demo posted by Uriah Duffy is pretty accurate.

I've only played it for ten or fifteen minutes so I'll withhold further judgement until I've had a little more time to play it. It's a keeper.

That seems to be the case for all envelope filters. Sample setting just dont work on them because the output of every bass is different and so the sensitivity knob has to be adjusted to accommodate it.

i was just wondering that because alot of you guys are reffering it to the FX-25b i dont know if it worth buying ong of these. i mean im happy with my FX25, but its is only a one tone pedal and it sounds like this pedal is the same and produces that similar tone (better, but still similar).

i want a different sounding filter to give another dimension. im considering a bassballs but ive seen some vids and its not really what im after.

I have a FX25 on my pedal board and the MXR M82 does not have the sharpness that the FX25 has. And the M82 is definitely wetter than the FX25. I have to say the M82 is no one trick pony. The M82 has elements of the MXR Bass Auto Q and Dunlop 105Q(I have both on my board as well) rolled up in it And it's wetter than the Bass Auto Q as well. I mention wet because that is a very import factor in why and how much I use any Envelope Filter.

I noticed that every EF reacts extremely different to each bass. Some EF's hate fretless basses. And string gauges plays a part in how the sensitivity and decay function works. Some basses for what ever reason will not react in a good way at all with particular EF's.

No, not a lot of you guys…just me. To me, it sounds similar to my DOD FX25B. I don’t own or never owned the FX25, just the B version. The M82 has individual effect and clean volumes that makes it more versatile than the FX25B. This means no low end loss or volume dip that seems to be the biggest complaint with the FX25B. Also for me, the FX25B has a terrible bypass system. It caused an unusual distorted spike while playing through one of my other filter. Take the FX25B out of my signal chain and it was gone. But to my ears, the M82 has the FX25B type of envelope characteristics.

I agree and disagree. In my setup, the M82 has the same annoying sharpness that the FX25B has, especially when plucking. But I alter my playing to get around this…so, no problem. Wetness? Yes, to me it may be a tad wetter than the FX25B. But is it as wet as the Enigma, Super Fatman, BassIQ, QTron+ or a vintage Mutron III (which I've owned all mentioned)...to me, no. "Wet" is a very subject word when describing filters. To me, the M82 has a distinct and very clean filter sound to it.

In my opinion, this is not a very versatile pedal. The lack of an attack knob, mode (LP/BP/HP), range (Hi/Lo and more on some units, i.e. Super Fatman has 12 ranges) or filter direction sweep function (Up/Down), make this somewhat limited on the available sounds. Is this a bad thing? Absolutely not. Is this a one trick pony effect unit? For me, yes. But I’d rather have one good sound than 30 crapolas any day. Filters are very subjective, you need to try them out and as my man Jauqo says, your setup can change everything.

You probably will not like this unit. What you hear on the Uriah video is exactly what you get. Sorry for all the underlines, I just want to emphasize that this is my opinion and mine only. I'm not trying to start a war. I'm not AndersonJ!

Apologies should not be necessary, it's unfortunate that opinions are taken out of context on TB. After all, you're the one posting, so obviously what you say is all your opinion not you touting "fact."
