My B2 had a problem with the "down" footswitch

Sign in to disble this ad
I was on a gig over the weekend, and went to cycle through some familiar patches with my Zoom B2, and the down selector wouldn't work, but the up did! Strange, as it is very lightly used, although I do sometimes store it out in the car where it's already pretty cold, and I figured condensation might be a factor.

I got it home today, took it apart for the first time, and saw the little switch circuitboard the two case-mounted footswitch plungers bump into. I dribbled some contact cleaner into the switch in question (not much in terms of openings for it to get into it by), pressed it a bunch of times, and now it works! Hopefully will continue to do so.

Anybody else have this kind of problem on this unit?

No, but mine rarely gets stomped on as it's on my desk next to my computer!

However, a lot of people have been upset by the same type of switches used in other products such as the Line 6 "two footswitch" pedal series.

Tactile switches (that's what the actual switch on the circuit board is called) are used in absolutely everything these days, and they are quite easy to replace (and cheap to buy.) So I guess that's why they do it.

Mine had the same problem, I solved it by "turning" the top cap of the switch to the left until it gripped again. Sounds unlogical but it worked for me.

I'd like to find a source for those switches, here in the States. I wonder if Parts Express has them, or if I need a more exotic source.... hmmmmmmmmmm... Any ideas?

The actuator (foot switchy, springy, plungery thingy) or the tactile switch?

Chances are good that Smallbear has both.

Just the tactile switch that's mounted on the little circuit board inside. The external plunger footswitch is a non-issue. I'll check Smallbear, and thanks for the link.
