My method to attach wah to pedalboard (with pics!)

Sign in to disble this ad
Looking for a simple and clean way to attach your Dunlop wah to a pedal board without altering the pedal? I came up with an idea when I first bought my Dunlop 105Q as I didn't want to mess up the graphics on the bottom of the pedal. I thought I would share this method as it works very well and the pedal can be returned to stock with no damage whatsoever if need be. I laid it out in photos below using a new Zakk Wylde wah. I set this one up exactly as my 105Q which is sitting snugly on my bass board.

The plastic shrink wrap that comes on the bottom plate can be left on. The 4 rubber feet are what holds the bottom plate to the board so they stay on as well. What I came up with was using 4 standard plastic computer discs (floppy discs). They have to be positioned with the disc opening to the side so that they both fit between the rubber feet. I discovered that 2 discs stacked equals roughly the height of the rubber feet. So here goes, all you need is some black electrical tape, 4 discs, and some velcro.

1. Start by taping up 2 stacks of 2 with black electrical tape.

2. Unscrew the bottom plate and place the 2 disc stacks against the finished side and space them so that the rubber feet can be put back on without rubbing.

3. You will have to remove the battery door and store it somewhere else. I just put mine back in the box the wah came in so that I wont lose it.

4. Tape the two stacks to the plate and completly wrap them as pictured. Note that no tape is applied to the finished side of the bottom plate.

5. Apply velcro to the bottom and screw the plate back onto the wah.

6. Place the pedal on your board and you're done!

You will see a bit of the black edge of the discs at the bottom end of the wah but it blends right into the pedalboard and it looks quite clean. The pedal now has lots of support, sits very firmly on the board, is solid and feels good on the foot to use.

Hope this is useful to a few folks.

I have sort of run out of steam with bass GAS lately and for some crazy reason, started putting together a small guitar board. I haven't played anything but bass in over 10 years but its fun to shake things up here and there. You can bet that half of these new "guitar pedals" are gonna end up on my bass board at some point. Especially the MXR chorus! It sounds like butter on bass!

Heres a shot of my bass board just to keep things in perspective!

How do you like the Phase 90? I've been looking at one as a cheap solution to my phaser problem (read cheap as free but broken from my friends dad) and am wondering if its worth the effort to get it and fix it. Keep in my mind my bass board doubles as a guitar board and if anything its a great guitar phaser.

I love it on bass as it has that mid hump that helps cut through.

Did you do the same with the fulltone? I just took the screws out of the rubber things and put them back in the hole, but I don't have the wah so I don't know if you can do that with those.

I used a single stack with the Fulltone and left the feet on as well. it also worked out quite well. I made sure not to tape over the signed label inside the bottom plate, so I had to be a bit more careful.

Interesting....I did the exact same thing only I used some leftover 1/4" red oak panels instead of the floppy discs.

Brilliant idea. On a side note, I noticed your Bass Auto Q, and not the dumptruck this time. I just picked one of those up last week, and I like it alot. Very unique effect, with that little shimmer at the end. Who knew.

Since you can unscrew the feet go get a scrap piece of acrylic from you local plastic dealer. Can be had for cheap. They will even cut to size for you. Drill four holes to match the feet mounting. Unscrew feet, screw the acrylic on then velcro. There you go.

The bass Auto Q is my favorite filter even though its known as an auto wah. As you can see from my guitar board, I'm a big MXR fan. It all started with the Phase 90. I love how the MXR filter sounds great with any bass and has its own output volume control. very easy to set up and the bypass on it is not bad at all.

I know using old floppy discs was not the most asthetically pleasing method, but I had a bunch around, and it didn't require me trying to use nonexistant woodworking skills!
