My next pedal build idea ... should turn out interesting

Sign in to disble this ad
OK, so I've seen some cool things and had a few cool ideas recently. I'm putting them all together to make one bad fuzz pedal. I think the name will have something to do with biohazard in it.

1. The circuit
I've built a few v3 Bazz Fusss. One for me and a few for some friends. I think for this pedal I'm going to use the Deluxe version. What can anyone tell me about this? I want it to be as bassy as it can get. What components should I swap to what to get NO low end loss? Maybe I'll just follow the schematic and just add a blend knob?

2. The enclosure
I think I'm going to order a yellow 1590 (maybe a 1790?) enclosure. My plan is to scratch it with some sandpaper, drop it down some stairs, hit it with a blowtorch, splatter some red paint on there like blood, hell ... I might have a friend put a bullet hole in it. After that I'm going to slap a big biohazard sticker on the front of it and put a matte clear coat on it. Should look awesome.

3. The crazy LED idea
It's getting a red (post better suggestions for the color please) one of these put in it.

4. The knobs
What and where can I get some cool knobs that would look good on this? I was thinking about getting some regular MXR style knobs and melting them a little with blowtorch. But post some cool knobs that would look better please.

5. Questions
Would it just turn out bad and just look like an ugly beat-to-hell pedal on my board?
Blend or no blend?
1590 or 1790 enclosure?
Bullet hole?

I think the bottom of it is going to get a peace, love and harmony sticker just for fun.

Post any and all suggestions please.

I think thats a sick idea. Out of the bullet hole should be one of those fiber optic string things. Like this:

That would be NUTS

Haha. Maybe somehow shape it into a mushroom cloud type thing.

Exactly, and before you beat it up, you could paint on a few yellow wearning cheverons, like the mxr blowtorch.

I was thinking of doing exactly that, this is kinda inspired by the Blowtorch (I just returned mine). Maybe going along the sides of the pedal. I wish it came in a roll like caution tape, but sticky. Hmmm, maybe I'll add some beware stickers, or caution, or something.

Ok, what is that and where can I get it? That is an awesome box.

For the knobs, they should not match. Maybe a MXR style, one from an old Marshall amp, a chicken head maybe. It'll add to the "used" or "beat" effect of it.

You make the boxes. PM your way.

Hmmm ... great idea ... I love it. I was also thinking of not painting the bottom of the enclosure so it looks mismatched and thrown together.

Thanks for the PM.

Yeah, mismatched is the way to go, esp. if you want it to look like it's lived on the road for a while.

Should I include a normal top LED along with the ring?

That enclosure and info for it can be found on the diystompboxes.com site. Check the 'pictures' thread.

I have built the deluxe bass fuzz and while its certainly... fuzzy... its not the effect for me.
Its really straight up 'wall of fuzz' sound. 100% clipping diodes. If that appeals to you, you're going to like it. I would recommend breadboarding the circuit first, though.

How different is it from the standard 1 knob version? Because I've built 4 or 5 of those. Everyone that hears it, including me, seems to love the sound. I think more flexibility would be great..

The deluxe Bazz Fuss is very good. If you want more bass it's all about the input and output caps.

I have 4.7uf and 10uf caps laying around. What should I use? Also, I'm adding a blend so with the caps and blend low end should be no problem.

I tried to register there like 3 weeks ago, it still says I'm waiting for admin approval or something.

Yeah ... if this pedal was on a board you would only be able to see the front section of the ring. So it's getting both. Should they be different colors? Green ring and red LED? Green ring and yellow LED? Green ring and orange LED? Green ring and white LED? So many options.
