Actually, I'd bet that the 1-spot is doing its job. This is how it acts when you do something to it that would make a lesser power supply fail or die. For example, are any of the unused plugs on the daisy chain touching a pedal enclosure? This would short the +v to ground, and the 1-spot's fault protection kicks in. Then it tries to turn itself back on, but the problem is still happening, so it shuts off, and continues this way.
Check that you don't have any of the plugs shorting against some metal or each other.
The 1-spot is a good design. There is no reason that it is not good for powering multiple pedals; that's what it's designed to do. Sometimes issues arise where you need isolated power for one or several finicky pedals, and in this case, of course, the 1-spot won't do. But
AFAIK there isn't a better single supply, and nothing better that isn't quite a bit more money.
By the way, when I talk about "1-Spot", I mean the actual thing called the 1-spot, which is made by Visual Sound. Some people use the term "1-spot" to refer to any power supply in that physical shape and size, but those other things are not 1-Spots. Anything I say about the 1-spot is about the VS one.
