My pedal board story. (time to kill)

Sign in to disble this ad
Bored at work. Just thought I'd post some thoughts.

I've finally ordered the last few pieces to complete my pedal board. (for now)

I don't know what I was thinking when I planned out my pedal board. I thought, "Hey! It would be so easy to power all my pedals through batteries."

Jeez, what a mistake that was. It got extremely frustrating constantly replacing batteries. (all rechargables) I was constantly plugging/unplugging all the pedals every time I wanted to play. So yesterday I finally purchsed the VoodooLabs Pedal Power 2+ from AMS.

Thing is, I have more power needs than what is available from the Pedal Power.

My LoopMaster 4 loop with all bypass should be here next week as well. It should get here at the same time the PP2+

Here's my signal path... (subject to change of course!)
All this on a PedalTrain Pro

Hatke VXL Bass Attack >
Wooly Mammoth clone >
Dr. Scientist Frazz Dazzler >
LoopMaster ------

loop 1 = Boss SYB-5 w/ exp. pedal

loop 2 = Devi Ever BIT > Line 6 FM4 filter modeler w/ exp. pedal (I'm putting this one into a loop because the FM4 only has 4 programmable presets. I use WAY more than this. So I can put it on a setting and have it running, and when the time comes to activate it, I'll just engage the loop.

loop 3 = Zoom B2.1u (using it for the more synths, modulation, octaver, some filters. Don't really use the amp modeling. I do use some of the dirt that's available on it.)

loop 4 = I'm reserving this one for the Jamman Looper I want to get. It's not a necessity, but it would be a nice addition.

then it all goes to the amp!

Still want to get a Devi Ever Cherry Pop and the Jamman.

I'm thinking I'm gonna have to run a small power strip off the extra outlet of the PP2+. I believe the Zoom can't be run off of PP2+. So I'll need to use it's power supply.
When I get the Jamman, it's going to need it's own power supply as well because it runs off of AC.

I'm sure it's going to be cluttered as hell on the bottom of the PedalTrain. It's gonna take a while to tidy everything up down there. I'm wondering if a power strip would even fit down there.

ANYWAY....
Along with the PP2+, I ordered two patch cable kits.
One of which is the CoreX kit. I've already purchased one and it works quite well. pretty solid considering I have been plugging and unplugging all my effects quite a bit. Seems to be holding up nicely.
The other kit is the George L. Finally pulled the trigger on that one. I always thought it was really expensive for 5 patch cables. But I thought what the hell... might as well give it a shot. Everyone here seems to love'em.

So let's see how this monstrosity turns out.

If you've read through all this... congrats. And thanks.

Now... anyone have any thoughts or questions? Any recommendations?
I know alot of you have vastly more experience with pedal boards and configurations.

Let me know if you think there might be a better way to handle all this. It's my first big leap into pedal boards.

check out diago (www.diago.co.uk) for pedal power supply. they say power up to 30 pedals with no hum or your money back! i got one a few months back, and it's been awesome. plus it's pretty small and velcros to the bottom of my pedal train 2 so you dont even know it's there.
