My Pedal Report Card

Sign in to disble this ad
I play a MM Sterling HS through a GK Backline 210. Based upon my experience this is how I would rate the following pedals that I own or have owned:

A - Boss RC-2
A - DigiTech JamMan
A - EBS MultiComp
A - EH Soul Preacher
A - Fulltone Base-Driver Mosfet
A - MXR Bass Auto Q
A - MXR Bass D.I.+
A - Peterson StroboStomp2
A - Tech 21 Boost R.V.B.
B - Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus
B - Boss LS-2
B - EH Little Big Muff
B - EH Metal Muff
B - EH Nano Baseballs
B - EH Small Stone
C - Boss DD-6 Digital Delay
C - Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb
C - Boss TU-2
C - DanElectro DC-1 Cool Cat
C - Dunlop 535Q Multi-Wah Crybaby
C - Dunlop Original Crybaby
C - MXR Phase 90
C - Peterson StroboStomp
C - Tech 21 XXL Bass
D - Aphex Punch Factory
D - Boss AW3
D - Dunlop 105Q Bass Wah
D - Marshall RF-1 Reflector Reverb
D - MXR DynaComp
D - Planet Waves CT-04 Chromatic Tuner
F - EH Nano Clone
F - EH Nano Dr. Q

I find myself editing this as I seek to clarify and not offend. In addition, I keep thinking of pedals that need to be added. My comments are based upon my experiences only. And they are based upon a variety of things that may or may not be important to others. Some were quality issues, some were sound issues and some were design issues. I have owned every one of these pedals at one time or another. All were bought with the intention of liking them. I would not repurchase or recommend any that were not an "A" or a "B." My recommendation is based upon having a choice between one of my "A" or "B" pedals and a "C" pedal. I guess that I would recommend one on my "C" list if an "A" or "B" option were not available. But I was very dissappointed in the "D" pedals. IMHO, I think the two bottom rated EH pedals are horrible.

What netted the Peterson a "C"?

I agree with UnDoNe; for example, I really enjoy the Dunlop 105Q and would recommend it.

Perhaps if you gave comments for each pedal, and WHY you graded them the way you did.

IMHO

Sorry, I should have added that this was my opinion only. I know many people like the Punch Factory and the PW tuner. I though the Punch Factory was basically useless. And the PW tuner had a very flimsy battery cover release. I saw several store displays where the cover was broken.

I rated the StroboStomp a C due to its problem with the display lifting off. From a purely tuning standpoint it worked fine. And I kind of liked the blue color. I think the StroboStomp2 fixed the complaints against the original.

Dunlop Bass Wah

Once again, my comments were just my opinion based upon my rig and usage. I know a lot of people love the Dunlop. I really disliked the delay it had when turning it on and off. I also didn't like way it auto returned to the off position when I removed my foot.

I would be intested to know why you rated the Boss RC-2 better than the DigiTech JamMan...

Rated the Same

I rated the JamMan and the RC-2 as "A" pedals. I just sorted them by brand/model after my grade. I like both pedals. Both are great but different. The JamMan is much more powerful and flexible with the usage of a CF card and the dual pedals. It can also store 99 loops and can utilize a secondary dual pedal. You can pretty much operate the JamMan without using your hands. But the RC-2 is smaller and can run off of batteries if needed. It is also less money. For some reason, I also found the RC-2 to be a little more intuitive. I have an RC-2 now and would love to own another JamMan with the auxiliary foot switch. But in all honesty, my needs can't justify the expense of another JamMan and switch.
