My E13 rocket came from pedalgeek today. Analogue haven ran out so i ordered from them because I got free shipping, which is cool.
As you guys may or may not know, this pedal is designed to nail most Smashing Pumpkins guitar tones, hence the name "Rocket." I dont much care for the Pumpkins music, but I wont deny that their fuzz is awesome.
The Rocket is basically two devi artifacts combined (SM/VF) with toggle switchable touch-sensitive tremolo.
Initial impressions:
The first side is a SM, which in itself is an awesome pedal. The thick, rich, and gainy fuzz is always satisfying. Especially for those doomy breakdowns. It has two knobs, Volume and intensity. There is plenty of volume on tap, and I tend to leave the intensity around 9 or 10 oclock to retain note definition.
The second side, VF, is a bit harder to tame. It has two knobs, Gain and Power. I usually leave the power set very low (it retains lows better this way) and turn the gain to around 12 or 1 oclock. This gives me the initial SM sound but with a slighty scambled octave up. Which is nice because it basically means my Rocket functions as a dual voiced fuzz machine. Thick and Juicy/Mean and Gnarly.
Turning the noise mode and the VF up can result in some SICK background noise, which I plan to use on my bands next recordings. Crazy squeals and hisses with crunchy velcro ripping tears when I move my hands along muted strings. At lower settings the fuzz gets really dark and sputtery, which I could definately see myself using in the future for something along a style ala Autolux or Dead Meadow.
I'm still getting used to the tremolo options, and I'll comment more on this more once I've had more time to experiment. But I love how it's touch sensitive. Hearing it slow down is like an auditory spell being cast on your brain.
The construction is solid and the LEDs are different from the other DE pedals. Sorta brighter and clearer, pretty neat stuff. I also slightly prefer the older E13 knobs, they seem more solid. But time will tell.
Overall I'm pretty sure this pedal will be on my board for an incredibly long time, if not forever. I'm so pleased with the quality that I'm tempted to order a shoegazer as well! My only gripe is that the octave up fuzz on the VF detracts from the low frequency region, but I had seen that coming anyways.
I'll do my best to answer any questions you guys might have.
