My Sound (A Synth Bass Adventure)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys,
So my synth board is pretty much done. It has taken about a year to get it where I wanted and a lot of research. I am really happy with it.
The chain goes:

OC2>GEB7>LS2 (Loop A -Moog LPF) (Loop B Woolly Mammoth>Noise Box>Heliotrope>MS-20 Filter Clone>Bass Balls>Small Stone>Shape Shifter Trem

I control both filters freq cutoffs with a Moog MP-201

On the want list:

Oribt Modded for true CV, FreqBox, Modding my Small Stone for CV input, Another A/B Box

Some really cool clips in there. Some reminded me of the sounds I got with the Octavius Squeezer when I had it. Would love to hear that stuff in a band context- I'll check out your MySpace.

Nice clips.

I especially dug the Mammoth-->MS-20-->Nano Stone-->Shape Shifter and the second clip of the Heliotrope into the MS-20.

One question - I thought the MS-20 was going to replace the Moog for you. Are you keeping both and if so, why?

I guess I should have explained.
I am mainly after DnB sounds with this rig.
Loops A and B run parallel at all times. Loop A is my sub bass where the Moog works as a fixed filter around 60-70hz. Loop B is my Reece Bass Loop. So my MS-20 did replace the Moog. The Moog now serves a diffrent purpose.

Bryan R. Tyler you can hear all these sound in a band context when our EP comes out in August. They are accutally just isolated bass clips from songs we have recorded. It will be up for free download on our myspace. I'll let you all know.

Gotcha. You've actually explained that before, but I forgot.

Definitely give us all a heads up when the EP is finished.

Jesus that stuff sounds good Ryan. I can't wait to get my filter from Mario. And seeing how small your filter is makes me even more excited. I forgot how tiny it is. I think mine will be in the same sized box. We need to get together so you can check out that orbit!

sounds great, dude!

i really dig the new filter, sounds great. i'm curious, does your noisebox have the gate trimpot inside, and did you tweak it at all? you get a nice tight sound out of the NB... mine is pretty easy to control, but i was impressed by the short notes you played.

also, are you midi syncing the mp201 for the first track? sound great.

good work, look forward to the ep.

john

Thanks for the kind words everybody.
It is funny to think around a year and a half ago my only effect was a Boss ME-50B. That's what hanging in this forum will do to you.

No, I have never looked for a trimpot for the gate. I acctually wish it had an external gate control. In that clip the sense is at 3 o'clock and the chaos is at 11 o'clock the filter is in high pass. I really use the filter sweep and my left hand to make the NB more useable, but it is still to sloppy for me to use in jungle lines. The HP mode does a good job of cutting those burbs the NB makes with the low fuzz signal.

Yes, we are always midi synced when I use a LFO on the MP-201

Is your Orbit modded for true CV? Adam said he could do it for me and it would only add $5. I am saving the cash now. I already can get the sound it makes except for the blend of fuzz and FM. The TB 303 FM sound over a nice gated fuzz is sick! Very Ed Rush or Noisia Neuro sounding, add subs to that and Damn!

Hey dudes,
I was working with the midi sync capablities of the Moog MP-201 this morning. It is insane, you can use the footpedal to move between multiple sub-dividions of the midi clock. I did a Dub Step click to show you show it sounds. I use it at the beging on the bass line and at the end. It starts with a whole note LFO then Jumps to a 16th note then to a tripelet thing. It is kind of hard to get the inbetween sud divions dialed in. Any way it is in my soundclick file under moving LFO Dub Step. I though it was pretty cool.

God Damnit Ryan! You know you can't post Dub Step stuff like that in front of me! You know I don't have the board space, the need, or the money for an MP201! That sounds awesome.
