Hi,
I have in my mind the ultimate sound for me, I search for the fat, low, deep and smooth sound.
I have a Musicman Stingray H model, I need for recommendation to EQ, Comp.
I want to get rid from "plucks" problem.
Thanks a lot,
Gil
Sorry about my English |

To the OP It would help if you site an example of the tone you are seeking i.e. give us a name of a player or a song or soumd clip. The way you originally posted it I could have said "eat some Pork and beans and scambled eggs and drink some warm beer, in about 2 hours I am certain you will have that "fat, warm, althought it might not be so smooth tone" |

Fred | I don't think that is a "problem," per se.

I have a Musicman Stingray H model | I am going to tell you what you most likely don't want to hear, but it is the truth. In my opinion you should switch to a different bass. The natural tone of the Musicman Stingray is pretty much the opposite (in many ways) of the terms you used to describe what you are looking for. Don't believe me? Try this. If you have a recording setup, try recording a DI track to your computer with the Stingray and then do the exact same thing with a Fender P-bass or Jazz or whatever. The difference will be night and day. Stingrays have a particular sound that is really attacky and punchy for funk. I have seen soooooo many bass players buy tons of pedals and just pull their hair out because the sound in their head is a deeper smoother Fender P sound and they are trying to get it out of a Stingray. |

I would say...Play with the pads of your fingers or side of thumb or use a fealt pick. There also sounds like a little Chorus effect or it it may be the digitial compression on the clip.
Its kind of funny-the more digital compression bits you put in, the less comes out! |

Flats on a Ray may not be everyone'S cup of tea though and I think that would also limit the bass's versatility...

You can get that stingray sound, but by turning off the active pre, cutting some treble and selecting which pickup(s) you want and which parallel/series mode you want, you can cop anything from a stingray to a j to a p to almost a Wal. I used an L2500 as my main (only for a while) bass for over 10 years for everything from Dub to Funk, rock, gospel, jazz, etc... It is the most versatile instrument on the market. You should be able to sell the stingray and buy an L2000 and have a little bit of money left over for an effects pedal or two.
Just my opinion, take it or leave it...
