I'm a bass player who's into making some weird, kind of atmospheric sounds, in the vein of the Mars Volta. But for this I have to get some more pedals. I've already got an ME-50B, which is alright for multi effects i guess, but I've been hankering for some delay AND reverb/chorus, which I can't currently get seeing as all the delay/modulation effects are in the same section and I can't have two on at the same time. Aside from that, I've also been wanting to get some other effects that arent on the ME50B, and so far I've only really checked out Boss and a little Dunlop/MXR.
I've made a bit of a list of what I had in mind, does anyone have anything else to add? I'm going to get (in rough order) either a DD-6 or DD-20 (depending on money at the time), a good distortion; something that can get pretty chunky, a wah pedal (probably Dunlop Bass Wah), a reverb (probably the RV-5), a DD-3, a harmoniser like the PS-5, a synth bass (most likely a SYB-5), either a flanger or a phaser and maybe a whammy pedal and some kind of equaliser with a memory for different settings. I know its a pretty big looking pedalboard, but with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez as my inspiration its kind of understandable Anything I forget/don't need? |

It has knobs for range, volume, 'q'-control, low end, and can be set to either turn on with a footswitch or just by stepping on it. It also has really good sound and appears (I've only had mine for a short while so I'm not certain on this) to be durable. And its cheaper than the dunlop.
i also recommend checking out electro-harmonix's stuff (excluding the nano-small clone) as they are well made stuff for the price |

Well, I guess you can never have enough delays
I like my MXR Phase 90; i've been thinking of modding it, though, for TBP, since some phasing can be heard when the pedal is "off"
For atmospheric sounds, you can't beat volume-delay-phase, IMHO

| | | | as omar once told juan, "you can never have too many delays". although, for more inspiration, look at juans board (bass player for TMV). he is more impressive than omar imho. spring for a dd-20 or a line 6 dl-4 instead of the dd6. i have one and its not as user friendly as said others. gopod choice on wah, and as far as reverb goes, i would wait for the new holy grail from EHX, as i hear the RV-5 is a bit digital sounding (no suprise, thats what boss does best). They dont call it the holy grail of reverbs for nothing. look into moog pedals as well, insane stuff for ambient/atmospheric nonsense. peace and love |

Also, with wahs, I'd prefer one that doesn't have the on/off switch under the toe, I find that a bit cumbersome, and also one that doesn't spring back to closed as I've heard some do.
I've had a look at a little of Electro-Harmonix's stuff, like the HOG, that looks pretty good, and the Big Muff will definetly be getting a look at Moog are good, but pretty expensive, though I'd really like to try out the MURF, and maybe one or two of their others.
The reason for the DD-3 as well, is that I've heard that once you stomp on it to turn it off, it cuts all echos, unlike the newer boss delays which leave the echos going. normally I wouldnt care, but I've been trying stuff out using 100% feedback, and I don't really want to be waiting 20 minutes for that to die down after turning the pedal off.
Thanx very much for your help so far |
