para driver vs ebs microbass ii

Funny I should stumble across this thread.
I tried out a para driver and micro bass yesterday.

The para driver, while you had control of the mids it still had a distinct voicing that sounded like the mids were still being cut. The distortion seemed smoother than the ebs.

The ebs sounded way more transparent and seemed like you could dial in more variation in the mids coming close but not matching the colour of the para driver.

If you're dealing with a modern bass and want more colour, smooth out some modern mids, or that distinct sans amp tone with some additional tone shaping go with the para driver. Outside of this I would go with the ebs. I need some sculpting power for a music man pickup but i dont always want the extra colour that seems to be present when dialing in the para driver so I'll be going with the ebs.

Steve, you're DEAD on. With the para they still feel cut even when up (Not nearly as much as a regular BDDI) & I like the distortion on the Para\BDDI much better

Ya that sans amp distortion totally has a nice few applications adding up to incredible bang for buck. But I'm trying to reproduce ampeg svt that has been biased hotter on the cheap like the following...

I managed a little closer with the ebs. Plus there were a few other tones too.
