can anyone tell what pedal the bass players using on this song? I know it's some sort of overdrive or fuzz, but I really like the tone of it..

the song is "A Clean Shot"

and "Perfect"

In both cases what makes it work so well is they are blending a clean track with the fuzzed track. Pretty much any fuzz will do, from the pedestrian to the more exotic, as long as you have a nice blender-loop (I recommend Xotic, and Barge is very well-liked here too) or two mixer channels or two amps.

Alright, so what cables would I need for that? The Sans Amp DI does that, right? What do I plug in where?

The Sansamp is not a fuzz. If you buy a fuzz and a blender-loop, then you need two short patch cables and two longer instrument cables.

bass --> long cable --> blender in
blender loop send --> short cable --> fuzz
fuzz out --> short cable --> blender loop return
blender out --> long cable --> your amp.

The Barge might be about as inexpensive as you'll get for a nice blender. Another option might be the Radial BigShot MIX. Those are a little bit more expensive (about $20.00) but available at MF.

It does. Overdrive is not the same as fuzz. Check the FAQ for an explanation of the difference.
