Need to find a good synth

I have the boss bass synth and it sucks. I'm looking for a really good pedal. Something that won't break up. Trying to use it for Dance/Elctronica/New Wave type music

The SYB-5 doesn't suck at all, it's just very limited in it's ability to be versatile. And, with an expression pedal, it actually does the one thing it does, quite well.

markbass super synth seems like the best option for the price to me, though it costs a bit more than the boss

And has no exp. pedal out, which is too bad.

I'm still hoping they come out with a new version of the Octavius Squeezer or at least a big firmware change. It has so much potential and was nice and small, but the UI was really difficult and some of the effects could have been better (the octaves, etc.)

I also like the SYB-5 better than most folks here, but it might some time to dial in for you.

That said, I prefer the MarkBass Supersynth, the EHX Bass MicroSynth, and the Line6 M9 (or 13).

I'm waiting for the Red Witch - Synthotron. I would also ask the staff at Analogue Haven b/c they specialize in synth gear.

ooh, i forgot about the lack of expression pedal. i agree about the octavius squeezer but IMO it falls too short of its potential for its price tag - and unless there's been an update I don't know about, it doesn't have an expression pedal control either

I'm looking to spend less than $300. I want a synth that can do a chill wave so I can play a bass line like the cure or something. I'm not big into that hard square wave where you can't play notes close to each other. I'm thing a chill wave to the start of a more square wave but i really don't need that too bad

I'm a big fan of the Squeezer. If you spend an evening reading the manual and experimenting with the params it becomes more obvious what it can do, it's very versatile and the patch memory means time spent experimenting isn't time wasted.

It's not the only filter I've got on my board - I still have a Meatwad and a Bassballs after it (and a BMS but that's becoming a bit obsolete these days) but there are times when just one filter won't do the job, so even if it did have treadle control I'd probably still want at least one more filter, preferably with a treadle, at the end of my chain anyway.

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for, but an older SYB-3 can be had for about $90 round these parts. no expression pedal, but a really great synth on a budget.

I owned one for quite a while, and i'm no stranger to synthesis. it's very powerful and capable of some amazing things - but the interface is lousy, octave tracking is pretty bad (and actually got worse with updates) - plus, still no expression control. is there a software editor now, at least?

He said he was looking to spend less than $300. To the OP: if you don't like what the SYB-5 can do for you, then you're gonna have trouble getting something you like for that kind of budget. The EHX Bass Micro Synth is NOT what you're looking for, if you want to play electronica/dance. The BMS is more for 70's style funk or disco. You might want to look into finding a Korg G5 used somewhere. I've seen those go for a good bit under $300 before.

Doesn't the Super Synth retail for ~$250?

I guess its $280 at musician's friend. That surprises me, because I thought I saw that it was 275-300 euros, which would be way more in dollars.
