So basically, I am looking to add a pedal or effect to my rig.

heres some background, I play reggae. For my bands sake, I don't want any Highs. I was thinking about the moog low pass filter, tho a bit pricey and i can't find much info on it.

also curious about octavers? this would get me a real bassy- thick tone no? what about compression? or synth? lotta stuff i play is originally played on the keys with real sub-bass sound.

thanks in advance

You should look at a BBE Sonic Stomp. It has two knobs and is brutally simple to use. It can bring you to the front of the mix, where the bass should be in raggae, without giving you any added high-end. It's like taking a wet blanket off of your speaker cabinet. It's a can't miss pedal and goes for around $100 at most locations. Well worth the $$. Good luck...

The Moog LPF is excellent. One other option along the same lines is an older DOD FX25 Envelope Filter - just turn the sensetivity off.

For the synthy stuff, maybe look at the Moog FreqBox (esp. if you're getting the LPF - multiple moogerfoogers can patch into eachother in interesting ways) or Robot Factory Pulse Synth. Both will generate a waveform based on the pitch you're playing, and can completely replace your guitar sound. Either that or buy an SH-101 and take it to gigs with you.

Aphex Bass Exciter all the way.

If you want to add some octave stuff as well, check the EHX Micro Pog.

There you go.
