Need Help: Need New Pedals to Fill Up Piano

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys,
well our piano player just quit the band. we are not going to replace him. we are going to become a 3 piece. we did this before the pianist was added. the only thing is we have become used to having a full sound with midi horn parts and such.

well anyway our guitarist has a roland midi unit on his guitar so it can cop that vibe really well. the only thing is that i need to have some pedals to fill up the missing space to cop the key bass tones.

we play in a funk/ wedding dance band. we play a lot of clubs as well.

right now i only have the boss oc 2 and tu 2.

i need some advice for basic pedals that would suit my needs. i already have a octave pedal...i need an filter or auto wah, a synth bass emulator, and possible distortion.

right now im looking at the deep impact, q tron....

i really like the effects zender and turner use on jamiroqui's albums.
i had a eh bass microsynth.. not really my cup o tea.

i saw turner's pedals on a thread here. figured his would be a good place to start maybe... since we are after the same sounds.

Bottom Row L>R: Gigrig 8

i am a plug and play player. i need something that can fill up the missing space obviously. money is and isnt an issue. wil be addig them overtime...so for right now i need the more necessary ones and will add more later. was checking out the deep impact and a filter first.

thanks for everything guys.

Zender used a boss me-6b and me-8b as well as a mutron and other pedals on jamiroquai albums. I picked the me-6b on ebay for $50 and it is great for the money, the envelope filter and synths are great.

It depends on the piano. An upright doesn't hold as many pedals as a grand piano.

well he played electric piano and used several keyboard patches.

i was thinking.. would a keyboard module work well... what way i could cop all the things he did and then some...??

You could get a Roland midi unit like your guitarist, but tracking isn't superb.

Standard thickening effects are chorus and reverb, which might be nice to have as always on effects.

Otherwise you could do something like what I'm moving towards -- have two effects chains in parallel, one being cleaner and low-heavy, the other being higher range and more effected. This fills up a lot of sonic space and you don't really need to bi-amp.

For example

Bass >> A/B C box
>> A) octave >> env. filter >> OD/distortion
>> B) ME-6B
>> combiner (maybe an LS-2 would work..?) >> amp

That way you can get a lot of sounds out with fairly little effort/cost and it will definitely fill up space if you make good patches on the multi. Also, you can get pretty much every sound you could want. I'd suggest having a 'clean' chorus + reverb tone ready on the multi plus whatever else you'd want.

Delays are also really nice, but I'm not sure it would work well in your situation.
