Need a list of Overdrives with a blend control

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to purchase an overdrive with a blend control onboard.
I have an MXR Blowtorch which is an excellent Fuzz and the blend
works great.
MXR has the setup right on this one!

An EQ section that only effects the Fuzz side and not the clean! Nice!

I'm looking for a nice complex Tube-like overdrive like the
Fulltone Bassdrive but with an onboard blender.

I know about Blender pedals, I have a Radial.

For this list, let's stick to:

"Bass Overdrive Pedals with an onboard clean blend".

Thanks everyone,
Rick

In the 'Tone' column.

EDIT: After review everything listed with Blend control is a fuzz. My bad.

It's not specifically marketed as a bass drive, but the Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive has a clean blend and works GREAT on bass.

The Sansamp bass DI has a blend control if I remember correctly. Crank up the drive and blend as desired.

EBS Valvedrive- which actually has a tube and powerful eq

I just got the Sansamp VT by recommendation and it's quite a versitile little pedal capable of getting thick and nasty overdrive also with a powerful eq.

It is not specifically a clean blend, but the character knob on the Mi Audio Tube Zone controls how much of "or your original signal is added in", or bass.

I do not support the current trend in believing that a clean-blend is the panacea for all drive pedals. Some pedals have an excellent implementation of the feature and some don't, and the thought that a pedal can't be GREAT without a blend is foolish. Of the three best OD pedals I've used, ZERO of them have a "clean blend" (angler, bbod, and holy fire). Additionally, the last time I checked my tube amp also failed to have a clean blend.

This is not to say a clean blend can't be a cool feature, but there needs to be a lot more going on in the pedal's sound before it's more than marketing. This is not unlike the term 'true-bypass' has stuck in people's mind without consideration for the potential positive effects of buffers.

grygrx,

I agree with everything you said. I have a Holy Fire, a Russian Big Muff
and a Fulldrive. They're all great and have their place.

As you know, a popular recording method is to mic up the bass amp, sometimes with some dirt on it, and then mix in a clean signal from the DI to punch up the low end. I do this in my home studio all the time, and I've come to like the support of the bottom.

I was only curious as to how many pedals that "I was unaware of" that had the blend feature. As I mentioned before, I bought the MXR Blowtorch and was impressed with the implementation of the EQ and blend, but not so much with the sound of the distortion itself.

Thanks for the insight,
Rick
